MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former President Donald Trump met with independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr in Milwaukee on Monday, July 15, seeking a potential endorsement for the Republican nominee, reported Politico.

Kennedy, who initially ran against President Joe Biden, suspended his Democratic run last year and launched himself as an independent. The environmental lawyer who secured double-digit polls could influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election in November.

However, Trump's meeting ahead of the Republican National Convention that kicked off later the same day did not yield the expected result as Kennedy is continuing his White House race.

RFK Jr affirms he will not drop out of 2024 race

Kennedy's staff confirmed his meeting with the 45th president but declared he had no plans to suspend his campaign.

"Yes, Mr Kennedy met with President Trump today to discuss national unity, and he hopes to meet with leaders of the Democratic Party as well," his press secretary Stefanie Spear told the outlet.

"And no he is not dropping out of the race. He is the only pro-environment, pro-choice, anti-war candidate who beats Donald Trump in head-to-head polls."

The secret rendezvous took place just days after Trump survived an assassination attempt during his rally in Pennsylvania. While speaking to his supporters over the weekend, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired a series of shots at the real estate mogul, who only sustained an ear injury.

This led him to join the frequent demands of Secret Service protection for Kennedy, whose uncle, President John F Kennedy, and father, Robert F Kennedy, were assassinated.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump noted it was "imperative" that his independent opponent get Secret Service protection. “Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!” he added.

Internet mocks Trump for meeting RFK Jr for endorsement

Netizens ridiculed Trump for meeting with Kennedy seeking an endorsement. Some mocking remarks brought up the environmental lawyer's revelation about a dead parasite in his brain.

"Brain worms flock together," a user wrote.

"Seeking worm boy blessing," another joked.

"Sounds like they figured out he’s going to cost them the Anti Vaxx and Conspiracy Theory Nuts Vote. As Democrats won’t waste a Vote on him," added a third user.

"Much like Trump thought his 'Street Cred' would go up with Black voters after his felony convictions... Trump immediately goes for the RFK voters because of the attempt on Sat. Pathetic," read a fourth response.

"Trump meets an adversary who can't be paid off. Lol," another user chimed in.

"Trump will start talking about his worms now," another quipped.

"Wonder how much Trump offered to buy his endorsement? Or maybe threats were used by someone 'protected by God' with followers who will 'fight, fight, fight' as directed. Stand tall RFK!!!" A user commented on Facebook.
