WASHINGTON, DC: New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) said she plans to file articles of impeachment given the Supreme Court ruling on Monday, July 1, that would give former President Donald Trump limited immunity against criminal prosecution based on his time in office.

Ocasio-Cortez has been active in efforts to increase accountability from the Supreme Court and investigate potential ethics violations of its justices.

Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says the Supreme Court has been consumed by corruption

Reacting to the ruling which has come as a shock for Democrats, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blamed the Supreme Court for corruption.

"The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

"Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture," she wrote further.

"I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return," the Democrat representative concluded.

Ex-Republican Rep Adam Kinzinger says SCOTUS' immunity ruling is 'really disappointing'

The Supreme Court has “stripped the guardrails of democracy,” former Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois said in a post on X following Donald Trump's immunity decision.

"The only protection is to not elect a whiney, small, victim-ey, clown as president," he added to the post. He said the Supreme Court ruling was "really disappointing," on CNN.

“This is very frightening because all you have to see is Donald Trump’s claim that this is a complete exoneration of what we knew happened on January 6,” Kinzinger, who is also the senior CNN political commentator, said on the station.

The former representative was one of two Republican members on the House committee investigating the Capitol riot.

The committee finished its work in December 2022 and presented evidence suggesting the DOJ and the public could charge Trump with several crimes.

Last week, Kinzinger announced he is endorsing President Joe Biden for president.

Internet reaction over Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's impeachment warning

Republicans rejoiced over the ruling while Democrats shared concerns that all of Donald Trump's cases and convictions might be overturned when Trump's campaign appeals them citing the Supreme Court ruling.

Meanwhile, the Internet has reacted to Ocasio-Cortez's impeachment warning with mixed reactions.

"I see you’re taking it well," reacted one on X.

One more wrote, "Are you really this dumb, AOC..?"

"'The SCOTUS didn't rule how I would like therefore it's corrupt' -AOC''' a third user commented.

More critics were slamming Ocasio-Cortez's decision with one writing, "LOL!!! You really should resign and do some laundry for your dude. You would make more of an impact at home than you do in Congress."

"You grow more retarded by the day," wrote another.

There were comments in her support too, "Impeach all the right-leaning judges" wrote one.

"President Biden must use his new powers to save America," one more commented.
