NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez labeled the ongoing anti-Israel protests led by student groups in college campuses across the country as 'peaceful,' reported Fox News.

Her statement came at a time when the Orthodox rabbi at Columbia University and Barnard College recommended Jewish students leave their campus and return home, to ensure their safety from protestors who were seen with the militant group Hamas on camera.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's statement

Speaking at an Earth Day news conference on Monday, April 22, the US Representative from New York noted, "Today also serves as a reminder of the power of organizing, of what we can accomplish (when) young people, climate advocates, labor organizers and working people of all backgrounds come together to demand the future. We all deserve."

"It is especially important that we remember the power of young people shaping the country today, of all days, as we once again witness the leadership of those peaceful student-led protests on campuses like Columbia, Yale, Berkeley, and many others," she added.

The message of Columbia University Rabbi

Rabbi Elie Buechler, director of OU-LJIC at Columbia/Barnard, sent a WhatsApp message to hundreds of students before the start of Passover, telling them to leave "as soon as possible" until the situation improves, because "what we are witnessing in and around campus is terrible and tragic."

"The events of the last few days, especially last night, have made it clear that Columbia University’s Public Safety and the NYPD cannot guarantee Jewish students’ safety in the face of extreme antisemitism and anarchy," he wrote.

"It deeply pains me to say that I would strongly recommend you return home as soon as possible and remain home until the reality in and around campus has dramatically improved."

Buechler later added, "It is not our job as Jews to ensure our own safety on campus. No one should have to endure this level of hatred, let alone at school."

Internet slams AOC for her statement

Netizens appeared furious with the Congresswoman's stance, as the following comments on Facebook demonstrate.

"It’s a sad time when our citizens elect representatives that hate America. It’s time to vote this lunatic and her squad out," wrote a user.

"This is disgusting. It should be grounds for dismissal," expressed another.

"Just vote her out people! It doesn’t take a lot of smarts to see that these people need to find a job more fitting for them. Preferably in a different country," stated a third.

"This shows just how far outside here league AOC is…. She is on the wrong side of history here. I simply cannot believe how people actually voted for her….. I hope her constituents are happy…." commented a fourth.

"She should stay in her own lane and stay out of this situation," mentioned a fifth user.
