WASHINGTON, DC: Former Representative Adam Kinzinger faced a wave of backlash after criticizing former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley's recent announcement of support for former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden in the upcoming general election.

Haley, who had previously been critical of Trump's actions surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot, justified her endorsement by citing policy agreements with the former president, as reported by The Hill.

Kinzinger, known for his outspoken criticism of Trump, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disdain, writing: "Not a surprise but: Pathetic." Haley's endorsement for Trump came on Wednesday, May 22, during an event hosted by the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank.

Haley, who had previously served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations under the Trump administration, cited policy agreements as the driving force behind her decision.

"As a voter, I put my priorities on a president who's going to have the backs of our allies and hold our enemies to account, who would secure the border, no more excuses. A president who would support capitalism and freedom, a president who understands we need less debt not more debt," Haley explained.

Kinzinger's recent jab at Haley reignited the long-standing feud between the two Republican figures. Back in 2021, he had taken her to task after she publicly distanced herself from Trump, according to a report by Newsweek.

"You can't play both sides anymore Governor. Pick Country First or Trump First," he tweeted following an interview Haley gave to Politico. During that interview, Haley spoke out against Trump’s actions during the January 6 Capitol riot.

"We need to acknowledge he let us down. He went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him. And we can't let that ever happen again," Haley had said then.

Haley was the last major challenger to Trump in the Republican primary race for the 2024 presidential nomination before she suspended her campaign in March. Throughout the race, she walked a fine line—criticizing Trump on certain issues without alienating his base.
