Arkete Davis: California man faces multiple charges after son uses stolen gun to shoot boy, 10, to death
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: Arkete Davis, a man from California was taken into custody along with his 10-year-old son on Saturday, December 30.
The arrest comes after the young boy allegedly fatally shot another 10-year-old boy using his father's stolen gun, according to Fox News.
What led to the deadly shooting?
The motive behind the killing has not yet been disclosed. The 10-year-old boy reportedly found the stolen weapon inside Davis' vehicle.
Authorities received reports of a shooting in Sacramento County and immediately responded to the scene. As per the public statement issued by the police, they found the victim bleeding from the head and neck and was unresponsive at the time.
"Simultaneously, witnesses at the scene told Deputies that the individual(s) responsible for the shooting ran into a nearby apartment," stated the Sheriff's Office.
"Deputies called out all the individuals from that apartment and detained everyone without incident. Detained from the apartment were an adult and two juveniles," the statement added.
Davis and his young son were arrested following the incident. Police have not named the 53-year-old man's son because he is a juvenile.
"Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene investigators responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence," read the statement.
Following their investigation, authorities learned that the now arrested 10-year-old boy went to Davis' vehicle to get him cigarettes.
"He then took a gun from inside the vehicle and bragged that his father had a gun," read the police's statement.
"He then proceeded to shoot the victim once and ran into a nearby apartment," police wrote.
Detectives pieced together the sequence of events, confirming that Davis attempted to dispose of the firearm as investigators located it in a nearby trashcan.
Shockingly, investigators confirmed that Davis, the father of the juvenile was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm, according to the police statement.
Authorities stated that the 10-year-old boy who was shot on Greenholme Drive in California was shifted to the hospital following the incident.
However, he was later pronounced dead at the facility.

The 53-year-old man who was arrested after the incident now faces multiple felony firearm charges in addition to accessory to a crime after the fact and child endangerment. He is now being held on a bail amount of $5000.
Davis' young son who is being charged with murder is being held in a youth detention facility.
