GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN: The eight people found dead inside a Michigan home after a suspicious fire have been identified by grieving relatives as beloved substitute teacher Amanda "Mandy" Karolkiewicz, her husband Kristopher and their six children.

The tragedy, which unfolded on Friday, July 24, has left loved ones and the local school community mourning as investigators continue working to determine exactly what happened. While officials have not yet formally confirmed the identities of the victims, family members have shared emotional tributes on social media as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss. Authorities have said the investigation remains active.

Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39, her husband Kristopher, 47, and their six children, who ranged in age from 5 to 15, were found dead inside their Grand Haven Township home around noon on Friday, according to relatives.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and Medical Examiner's Office have not yet officially confirmed the victims' identities.

Authorities have said some of the victims had gunshot wounds, though they have not specified which ones.

Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and have said it is too early to draw final conclusions. Police have also said they are not looking for any outside suspects.

Our hearts are utterly shattered. Tragic doesn't even touch it."

Family and school community mourn Amanda Karolkiewicz

Amanda was well known in the Grand Haven Area Public Schools community, where she worked as a substitute teacher.

Earlier this year, the district praised her on Facebook, saying she "goes above and beyond" for students at Peach Plains Elementary School.

Following news of the tragedy, Superintendent Kristin Perowski issued a statement offering support to students, staff and families while also making mental health resources available to the school community.

Amanda's parents, Steve and Becky Lawwill, also shared their heartbreak online, posting a smiling family photograph taken on a beach.

"So grateful for the joy they brought into our life. We are just so shattered," they wrote.

The couple later declined to comment publicly as they awaited additional information from the medical examiner.
