Bernie Sanders says Kamala Harris’ ‘bold' economic plan is 'important step' for US but Internet disagrees
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) praised Vice President Kamala Harris’ new economic plan which she unveiled on Friday, August 16.
In an interview with MSNBC's Chris Hayes, Sanders described the Democratic presidential nominee's proposals as "bold" and "popular."
Bernie Sanders says Kamala Harris' economic plan is 'a strong progressive agenda'
Speaking about Kamala Harris' economic plan, Bernie Sanders said, “Well, I think given the fact that she has been a candidate for only three weeks, I think she’s doing really, really well in a whole lot of ways."
“I think what she laid out today was a strong progressive agenda," he noted.
“Obviously, in the weeks and months to come, I think she’s going to add more specificity to some of these proposals, and she’s going to add to it,” Sanders added.
Kamala Harris' economic plan
Kamala Harris, who recently ascended to the top of the Democratic ticket following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election, announced her economic plan during a campaign stop in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday, August 16.
Analysts say that the proposals could cost up to $1.7 trillion, which include a range of measures such as tax cuts, increased housing construction, and a federal ban on price gouging.
Harris' campaign emphasized that this plan is just one component of her broader economic agenda, which she intends to prioritize within her first 100 days if elected, according to The Hill.
Bernie Sanders endorses Kamala Harris' economic policy proposals
Bernie Sanders expressed strong support for the policy positions outlined in Kamala Harris' economic plan.
“I have always believed that good policy is good politics, and what she is talking about today is reining in the outrageously high cost of prescription drugs that’s enormously popular. The right thing to do,” Sanders told Hayes.
“She’s talking about building 3 million units of affordable housing at a time when we have a housing crisis in Burlington, Vermont, Los Angeles, California, and every place in between," he continued.
“We’ve got to lower the cost of housing in America,” he added, while listing off other proposals that he supports including ending medical debt and controlling the costs of grocery prices," the Vermont senator added.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Sanders, who ran against Harris and Biden in the 2020 election wrote, "@KamalaHarris introduced a bold, popular economic agenda for her first 100 days in office that begins to speak to the needs of working families and takes on unprecedented corporate greed."
"It is an important step forward in making our country a more just society," he added.
