NORTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: An elderly couple's journey of over five decades took a violent turn after 71-year-old Bertha Yalter from North Miami Beach attempted to smother her unidentified husband of 52 years with a pillow.

The catalyst for this alarming incident was a postcard from her husband's ex-girlfriend, dated over six decades ago.

What led to the alleged domestic dispute?

The dramatic confrontation unfolded on Sunday afternoon, January 28, at the couple's residence on NW 169th Street, prompting a swift response from the North Miami Beach Police. Initial reports indicated that a domestic dispute had escalated into a physical altercation.

The dispute centered around a postcard sent by the husband's ex-girlfriend, stirring emotions and resentment. The couple, married for more than five decades, found themselves in a heated argument that spiraled out of control.

According to the arrest report, Yalter allegedly resorted to violence, attempting to smother her husband with a pillow and inflicting both bites and physical battering. The victim, described as extremely fragile, bore the brunt of the assault, sustaining severe bruises, open cuts on his arms and stomach, and bleeding bite marks, as per NBC.

What are the charges against Bertha Yalter?

The incident, recorded on a cell phone, provided crucial evidence for law enforcement. Yalter was subsequently arrested and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

She now faces a slew of charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery on a person aged 65 or older, and tampering with the victim.

Boston man hires hitman for killing his wife and her new boyfriend

In an unrelated incident, a Boston resident has entered a guilty plea for orchestrating a plot to hire a hitman to murder his estranged wife and her new partner, as revealed by federal officials.

Mohammed Chowdhury, aged 47, now faces the prospect of up to ten years behind bars after admitting guilt to two counts of utilizing interstate commerce facilities for murder-for-hire on January 25.

Prosecutors detailed that in November 2022, a tipster alerted the FBI about Chowdhury's attempt to arrange the killing of his wife. The informant conveyed that Chowdhury had already made payments to someone for the intended murder, but the hired individual failed to carry out the act.

Chowdhury, in his urgency, expressed to the informant that the murders needed swift execution and even suggested robbing a store to generate funds for the hit. Unbeknownst to him, the informant provided Chowdhury with a phone number, which ultimately connected him with an undercover FBI agent posing as a hitman, as per MEAWW.

Throughout several meetings in December 2022 and January 2023, Chowdhury discussed his sinister plans with the undercover agent, specifying his desire for the murders to appear as a robbery, thereby diverting suspicion from himself, as outlined by prosecutors.
