WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Joe Biden’s Christmas Eve family photo went viral for unexpected reasons after many noticed he appeared partially hidden in the background of the image.

Shared on social media late on Christmas Eve, the photo showed several members of the Biden family standing in front of a decorated Christmas tree. While the message wished followers “a peaceful and joyful Christmas Eve filled with love,” attention quickly shifted to the framing of the image and Joe Biden’s placement within it.

Social media users were quick to point out that the 83-year-old former president appeared tucked behind others in the group, while his son, Hunter Biden, stood front and center. The visual sparked widespread commentary, with many questioning why Biden appeared barely visible in a photo shared from his own account.

The holiday image, posted around 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, featured eight members of the Biden family. Despite traditionally being the focal point in such portraits, Joe Biden appeared partially obscured behind former First Lady Jill Biden.

In contrast, Hunter Biden and his daughter Maisy occupied the central position in the frame, drawing immediate attention. For many viewers, the composition felt unusual, especially given Joe Biden’s status as a former president.

Social media users quickly began circulating the image, with one viral post remarking, “Hunter is the alpha now.” Others questioned whether the placement reflected a shift in family dynamics or was simply an awkward moment captured on camera.

Critics call out awkward framing and perceived disrespect

The photo prompted strong reactions online, with some users calling the framing disrespectful. One comment read, “I think it’s disrespectful to put the eldest family member in the back of a photo taken for the former president’s social media.”

Another user shared a zoomed-in image of Biden’s face, writing, “Took me a while to find ya, champ.” Several others echoed similar sentiments, saying the former president was difficult to spot at first glance.

The discussion quickly gained traction, with critics describing the image as visually unbalanced and oddly composed for a family holiday post tied to a former commander-in-chief.

Photo composition overshadows the festive message

The placement of Hunter Biden, who once used the Secret Service code name “Chieftain,” drew further attention as users debated whether the positioning was intentional or simply poor composition.

Some commenters shared edited versions of the photo, while others used the moment to reflect on Joe Biden’s long public career. One post read, “They’re already leaving Joe out of the family picture and he ain’t even dead yet. Bless.”

Another added, “Kinda looks like the family is pushing him out too. A sad ending to a long career.”

Another comment stated, “Former President of the United States and he let them all put him in the back like that.”

Despite the warm holiday message intended by the post, the unusual framing quickly became the dominant talking point. What was meant to be a festive greeting instead sparked widespread debate over optics, family dynamics, and the strange visual choices behind the image.
