WASHINGTON, DC: In a candid admission, former president Bill Clinton revealed that he could not sleep for two years following the 2016 election in which his wife Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump.

The confession comes in his new book, 'Citizen—My Life After the White House', where Clinton reflects on the emotional toll the election had on him.

Bill Clinton opens up on post-election struggles, apologizes for rage and sleepless nights

Bill Clinton admitted, “The whole thing is hard for me to write. I couldn’t sleep for two years after the election. I was so angry, I wasn’t fit to be around.” He went on to apologize for the outbursts of rage he displayed during this period, saying, “I apologize to all those who endured my outbursts of rage, which lasted for years and bothered or bored people who thought it pointless to rehash things that couldn’t be changed.”

The former president also shared his belief in the validity of professor and author Kathleen Hall Jamieson’s assertion that the FBI’s reopening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails just days before the election, coupled with Russian cyber attacks, significantly impacted the results.

In addition to his personal reflections, Clinton expressed his belief that external factors played a role in the election’s outcome. He agreed with Professor Kathleen Hall Jamieson’s analysis that FBI Director James Comey’s announcement to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, coupled with Russian cyberattacks, was "effective enough to persuade voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to vote for third parties or stay at home." Clinton said, “If so, Putin’s enablers were Comey and the political press.”

Bill Clinton suggests US may not be ready for a female president

However, when asked whether the US is ready for a female president, especially in light of Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to Donald Trump, Bill Clinton suggested the country might not be.

He explained, “I think in some ways we’ve moved to the right as a reaction to all the turmoil. And I think if Hillary had been nominated in 2008, she would’ve walked in, just like Obama did.” While acknowledging the cultural and political challenges women face in leadership roles, Clinton also speculated that a conservative Republican woman might have an easier time winning the presidency. "I think it would probably be easier for a conservative Republican woman to win," he said.

Social media reacts to Bill Clinton’s post-election confessions

Social media users share varying theories on Bill Clinton's post-election behavior, with some suggesting his fears were tied to past associations and potential legal trouble.

One user wrote, "That’s because he thought his outings with Epstein would be exposed."

Another replied, "What Bill fears is that he will go to jail and Hillary will have him silenced so that he doesn't spill the beans on her for a reduce sentence."

One user commented, "Not surprising, Democrats always act out when they don't get what they want."

Another added, "He was worried justice was going to be knocking on his door. Trump was way too nice with the Clintons and their foundation."

One said, "Hey were confused. That was actually Hillary. Also, it's still happening."
