LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Comedian Bill Maher claimed to have “credibility” with President Donald Trump and his MAGA followers because of his "honest" unfavorable stance on woke ideology, the Independent reported on Friday, March 28.

A vocal critic of Trump and MAGA, Maher, 69, is reportedly set to meet with the 78-year-old incumbent at the White House in the coming days. The meeting has been set up by musician and MAGA enthusiast Kid Rock and confirmed by Trump himself over the weekend on Truth Social.

Bill Maher's statement ahead of his meeting with Trump

Bill Maher shared his opinion of the upcoming White House meeting on his 'Club Random' podcast last week, with NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo as his guest.

"I’m doing it because, first of all, it was presented as… maybe this is a beginning to heal America," shared Maher. "Now, I don’t have some sort of complex where I think I can heal America; I can’t. Let’s get that clear. I’m not going to be healing America. But if two guys who’ve been at each other for so long — I mean, it’s kind of a Nixon to China thing. I have the credentials.”

Maher attempted to validate his claim by saying that “nobody who was harder on Trump or more prescient about the fact that he wasn’t going to leave office voluntarily than I was," and at the same time, he criticized liberals for going "woke."

“But they (MAGA) also respect me because I’m honest about the woke train to crazy town,” continued Maher. “And I don’t shrink from that. And I’ve also lost a lot of fans for that. The woke people have left the building, and I’m willing to make that sacrifice. But it does give you a certain credibility.”

The comedian went on to note that it was an “honor to be invited to the White House,” even though he has received criticism from close quarters over the planned visit.
