NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has called out Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley for wanting "grace" for her "poor choice of words" after the extensive backlash over her slavery controversy.

Criticizing her remarks, he brought up their past beef, which eventually led to his removal from CNN.

Based on an Associated Press report, Lemon was ousted from the outlet in April over misogyny and misbehavior accusations a little over two months after he made offensive and sexist comments about Haley, saying she is "not in her prime."

The former South Carolina Governor found herself in hot water after she refused to admit slavery and the cause of the Civil War in a town hall in New Hampshire on December 27.

'She didn't offer me that same grace'

The ex-CNN host took to his X account to respond to the controversy, reminding the former UN Ambassador that she did not give him the respect she is seeking now.

He wrote, "Nikki Haley wants grace for using a poor choice of words when, after I misspoke in some comments involving her, she didn't offer me that same grace, immediately and very publicly took me to task, and then fundraised off of it."

"However, I'm glad she clarified what she should have said. And, In the spirit of the season, let's see if her actions match her corrected words moving forward," Lemon added.

The White House hopeful's campaign was shadowed following the controversy. Rival candidate Chris Christie slammed Haley, saying the answer was "easy." Similarly, 'The View' hosts Ana Navarro and  Sunny Hostin also called out and mocked the GOP presidential candidate.

What is Don Lemon's 'past her prime' controversy?

During a CNN panel discussion in February, Lemon made certain sexist comments about Haley's age.

"This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable. I think it's the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are something if not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn't in her prime, sorry. A woman is considered to be in their prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s," he said.

According to a Radar Online report, the ex-host had to issue a public apology due to intense scrutiny, stating, "woman's age doesn't define her either personally or professionally." But it did not stop the outlet from ending his seventeen-year career.

Internet slams Don Lemon

Netizens have not reacted positively to Lemon's criticism of Haley. Social media reactions suggested that his sexist remarks still shadow him, and his latest response to the slavery controversy against the GOP candidate is because he was fired.

One user remarked, "Don just bitter cause he got fired from CNN for inappropriate comments about her."

Another user commented, "Coming from the guy who got fired from CNN - NEXT..."

"At this point we should ever take him seriously this man is a joke it's a reason he got fired," read one more reaction while another user added, "DL gotta do something to stay in headlines."

Another user said, "Don Lemon has such moral high ground.... please."

One user reacted on X, saying, "Don lemon is irrelevant."
