WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance held an anti-fraud press conference on Thursday, Oct. 8, where he argued that the meaning of socialism has changed in the American context.
He criticized self-described socialists in American politics, arguing that while socialism traditionally prioritizes workers, those who identify as socialists now advocate policies that could replace American workers with foreign workers.
During the anti-fraud press conference, which was primarily focused on combating H-1B visa fraud and protecting American workers, Vance was joined by senior administration and agency officials who also spoke during the announcement.
Vance argues American socialists have changed definition of term
Vice President JD Vance discussed the appeal of socialism and the definition of the term during recent anti-fraud press appearances, warning the definition of the term has changed.
He took a veiled jibe at self-proclaimed socialists running across America, arguing that while socialism prioritizes workers, it has become increasingly tough to define the term in the evolving American landscape.
During the press appearance, JD Vance was asked how would he define socialism and Why, he thinks, “socialist candidates are popping up everywhere in the country?”
“Honestly, it’s a hard term to define these days,” Vance said as he began his reply to the question.
He continued, adding that, classically, socialism means prioritizing workers, but most of the self-described socialists across America would oppose this announcement that prioritizes American workers.
“I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports,” Vance said.
America suspends key green card program for giant companies
The US government suspended eight major technology and IT companies from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program on Thursday, Oct. 8, amid allegations of fraud and concerns over the use of foreign labor.
The PERM program is a key step in the employment-based green card process for foreign workers.
VP JD Vance puts Microsoft on notice, telling the tech giant it cannot lay off American workers only to replace them with foreign labor. "We are the biggest boosters of your industry," Vance says, making clear that the administration wants American technology companies to thrive, but expects them to hire Americans in the process. "You're a great American company, but you've got to hire great American workers."

"Our message to Microsoft is: You're a great American company, but you've got to hire great American workers," US Vice President JD Vance said.
Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling added that some of the largest IT firms in the world would also be suspended from that program, including Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini.
"We will not accept any new or process any pending permanent labor certification applications involving these companies," Sonderling said.
During the announcement, Vance was accompanied by several senior officials, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, Attorney General Todd Blanche, Labor Secretary Keith E. Sonderling, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson and Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony P. D’Esposito.
The announcement came as part of the Trump administration's broader effort to crack down on alleged fraud in immigration and visa programs and promote the hiring of American workers.
