Though her whereabouts are unknown, Romero may have been in the SUV when it went into the water, according to Chicago Fox affiliate WFLD, which was reported by police.
This is based on recently uncovered security footage from a fast-food restaurant, where she entered, left the building quickly by herself, and got into her Nissan. They claimed to have seen her phone ping 15 minutes later near the pond.
Additionally, a pedestrian reported to the police that they had found a washed-up backpack, the police claimed. The hunt is still going strong, as Law & Crime reported.
Romero vanished on Monday, December 4, while traveling to the Bowlero bowling alley in Vernon Hills, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, for a holiday work party. According to authorities, the teenager's cellphone was pinging in the vicinity, but she never appeared.
