Brittany Ferguson: NC woman dies after rock thrown at car windshield as she was driving to visit sister
NORTH CAROLINA: A woman crashed into a house in North Carolina on Wednesday, May 15, after a hooligan threw a rock at her through her car's windshield.
Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson, 23, was killed when a rock went through her car and hit her in the head while she was driving to meet her sister.
Troopers believe rock was thrown by someone standing on side of the road
Ferguson's 2006 Ford Taurus veered off the road, struck a neighbor's porch, and crashed through a yard. Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Bad. It was just horrible,” homeowner Abigail Rumlet told WRAL.
“The house can be replaced or repaired … Just closure. That’s what I want for the family.”
Investigators are searching for a white Chevrolet S-10 single-cab truck, but the person who threw the rock is still at large.
Following the incident, witnesses saw the truck drive back and forth through the area, with a man seated in the bed.
According to ABC News, state troopers believe the rock was thrown by someone standing on the side of the road or from a car traveling in the opposite direction as Ferguson.
“I hope that whoever did this act will come forward. And man up to what’s happened here, because it’s just an awful tragedy,” said Rumlet.
Colorado teen killed Alexa Bartell in a similar attack
The vicious attack occurred only a few days after a teenage boy from Colorado entered a guilty plea for the same crime that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old in 2023.
Zachary Kwak, 19, acknowledged that he and his two friends killed Alexa Bartell over a few days when they threw rocks and other objects at cars.
Authorities said that Bartell was struck by a large landscaping rock that flew through her windshield as she was returning from work at approximately 10:45 pm.
Internet dubs crime as 'senseless'
As soon as the news went viral on Facebook, internet users sent condolences to Ferguson's family.
One social media called the crime, "senseless" and wrote "So sad and senseless!!! Condolences to her family and I pray they receive justice. Some people have NO regard for another human life unless it’s their own smh."
Another added, "Prayers for her and the family. He needs a rock thrown at him or taken out back 1 and done. No sense is what he done. Hope justice is served and not just thrown in jail."
One person criticized the suspect and said, "People can be such morons. Who the hell would think to throw a rock at a vehicle unless it was a toddler. Maybe it was an immature adolescent who seriously needs to grow up and respect others on the road. This behavior is unacceptable unbelievable and ridiculous."
"The scary now I want to wear a helmet to drive anywhere smh," remarked another person.
