BEDMINSTER, NEW JERSEY: Bryson DeChambeau had a week to forget at LIV Golf New York, but his final round ended with an unexpected conversation with President Donald Trump.

The American golfer met Trump on the 18th green after finishing his final round at Trump Bedminster on Sunday. DeChambeau later revealed what the president told him during their lengthy conversation.

DeChambeau finished the tournament seven-over par and tied for 38th, a result that also saw Jon Rahm win the season-long title race.

It was a frustrating week for the two-time LIV Golf winner, who struggled throughout the tournament and looked visibly unhappy with his game.

Still, there was one positive for DeChambeau. His Crushers team won the team event, giving him something to celebrate despite his individual performance.

Asked by a reporter what Trump said to him after the round, DeChambeau said the president congratulated the team and praised their performance.

“He just congratulated us and said that was fantastic golf,” DeChambeau said. DeChambeau then gave a brutally honest assessment of his own week.

“I told him how tough his golf course is. I got my b**t kicked this week, that's for sure,” he said.

The conversation also turned to Joaquin Niemann, who produced one of the standout performances of the tournament.

DeChambeau said Trump was particularly impressed by the Chilean golfer's performance at Bedminster.

“All positive things to say, and we just appreciated it and thanked him. Then he said, great job and congratulations,” DeChambeau said.

“He was supportive of it, and then obviously supportive of Joaquin and how well he did on his golf course.”

DeChambeau added, “He was really impressed with Joaquin, that's for sure.”

Niemann's performance made DeChambeau's own result look even tougher. The Chilean finished at 16-under par, while DeChambeau ended seven-over. That meant a massive 23-stroke difference separated the two golfers by the end of the tournament.

Bryson DeChambeau admits Trump Bedminster got the better of him

As per DeChambeau, the difficult result was a sharp contrast to the success he has enjoyed elsewhere on LIV Golf this season.

He has already won twice this season, but his performance in New York showed just how challenging the Trump Bedminster course could be.

Despite his individual struggles, DeChambeau had plenty of praise for the Trump properties and the people working there.

“That was really all we talked about,” he said of his conversation with Trump. “Whenever we go to the properties, they've been great to us. The hospitality is amazing. They treat us well. All their staff are amazing.”
