DALLAS, TEXAS: A Texas suspect who reportedly eradicated a family of four in Dallas, including a one-year-old child, met his fate from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as authorities chased him, police said.

The 21-year-old Byron Carrillo, who was wearing an ankle monitor that he cut off either before or right after the incident, shot and killed Jose Lopez, 50, Karina Lopez, 33, Vanessa De La Cruz, 20, as well as the one-year-old, who was taken to the hospital where he later died, the Dallas Police Department said.

The toddler was identified as Logan De La Cruz

The toddler was identified as Logan De La Cruz in a GoFundMe started by a family member. The fundraiser also noted that the victims were all related. A 15-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital while a 13-year-old girl also in the house was uninjured, authorities added.

Byron Carrillo stole a car following the shooting

Police say that after the shooting, Carrillo stole a car and drove south before he was located by the Texas Highway Patrol near Austin. After a pursuit, police say Carrillo crashed the vehicle and shot himself in the head as officers approached.

The Texas Rangers and the state law enforcement agency are investigating Carrillo’s death. His ankle monitor was placed on his person due to a 2021 aggravated assault charge, Dallas police said.

Byron Carrillo was Vanessa De La Cruz's ex-boyfriend

According to WFAA, citing family members, it was reported that Carrillo was Vanessa’s ex-boyfriend and the father of Logan. Annabel De La Cruz, the daughter of Jose and Karina Lopez and the sister of Vanessa, started the GoFundMe to help her and her three sisters.

“Suffering the tragic loss of our parents, my sister and nephew, we would greatly appreciate any help,” she wrote in the GoFundMe description.
