NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In an interview with CBS 8, San Diego Representative Scott Peters (D-Calif) criticized the Biden campaign for what he described as "arrogance" following the president's faltering debate performance last week.

The debate, which saw Biden struggling to articulate his ideas and effectively counter former President Donald Trump's numerous false claims, has fueled concerns among some Democrats, leading to growing speculation about whether Biden should withdraw from the race and allow another Democrat to challenge Trump.

Scott Peters criticizes Joe Biden's campaign's response

“As much as I love Joe Biden, in those swing states, he’s having a hard time,” Peters said during the interview, adding, “We needed a boost from Thursday. We didn’t get it. And the campaign has been very, I think, arrogant in their response.”

Peters stopped short of explicitly calling for Biden to withdraw from the race, unlike three other House Democrats who have done so. However, he did suggest that the option should remain on the table.

“We want to know what [the Biden campaign’s] plan is to win this election and turn these numbers around,” he said. “If they don’t have a plan, then I think we have to move in a different direction.”

Recent polls indicate Biden is trailing Trump in several crucial swing states.

A June poll conducted before the debate showed Trump with a 4-point lead over Biden in Arizona and Georgia, a 3-point lead in Wisconsin and Nevada, and a 2-point lead in Pennsylvania.

In Michigan, Trump led by 1 point, while Biden and Trump were tied in Minnesota.

Peters emphasized that Biden must develop a strategy to effectively compete in the swing states.

“The point is to win the election. It’s those seven to 10 states that this is going to be decided in, and Joe Biden’s trailing,” he said. “We need a plan to win those states. And if Joe Biden’s got that plan, I want to hear about it. ASAP.”
