Joe Biden mocked as Netflix co-founder and Democratic megadonor urges him to drop out of presidential race
WASHINGTON, DC: One of the Democratic party’s most generous donors, who co-founded Netflix, has urged President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.
Billionaire Reed Hastings is asking the 81-year-old incumbent to step back following his lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump last week, according to Daily Mail.
On Wednesday, June 3, Hastings told the New York Times, “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous.”
Hastings and his wife Patty Quillin significantly contributed to the party's campaign funds during the Trump presidency, with donations exceeding $20 million.
They have previously supported Joe Biden by contributing $1.5 million to the 2020 campaign and over $100,000 last summer.
Hastings was involved in the Biden campaign's efforts to connect with the tech industry, alongside LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Google chief Eric Schmidt, and former Yahoo executive Marissa Mayer.
Democratic supporter Ari Emanuel speaks out against Joe Biden’s reelection bid
Following the debate, Biden's donors were considering three different strategies, one of which involved him exiting the race immediately, proposed by individuals with little influence on the campaign.
Reed Hastings has now emerged as the most significant donor to the Biden campaign and the Democratic Party, urging him to step aside.
He has a close relationship with California Governor Gavin Newsom, who some have suggested as a potential replacement for the Democrat statesman, having donated $3 million to his 2021 recall campaign.
Ari Emanuel, a prominent Hollywood super-agent and Democratic party supporter, whose brother Rahm served as the former White House Chief of Staff and is currently serving as Biden's ambassador to Japan, was also highly critical on Wednesday.

"I talked to a bunch of big donors, and they're moving all their money to Congress and the Senate," Emanuel mentioned at the Aspen Ideas Festival.
Emanuel, who inspired the character of Ari Gold on the TV series ‘Entourage', is also the brother of Rahm Emanuel, the former Mayor of Chicago.
"He gave us a bunch of malarkey, and I'm really pissed. We all should be really pissed," Emanuel further stated.
Rahm Emanuel also previously served as Barack Obama's Chief of Staff when Joe Biden was Vice President.
What did Joe Biden say about dropping out of the 2024 race?
The decision on whether President Joe Biden will continue his 2024 presidential bid after his dismal debate outing against the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, largely rests with him, according to Democrats and political strategists.
Democrat President Lyndon B Johnson opted to drop out of the race in 1968 due to his declining popularity caused by increasing casualties in the Vietnam War.
Following his disastrous debate performance last week, the Commander-in-Chief is experiencing a sharp decline in support.
Despite senior aides suggesting that he may only have a few days to prove himself capable before party anxiety reaches a boiling point, President Biden defiantly declared on Wednesday during a call with his reelection campaign staff that he intends to continue running for reelection, stating, "Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running ... no one's pushing me out."
Biden adamantly emphasized, "I'm not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win."
However, despite his various efforts to salvage his struggling reelection bid – including impromptu appearances with campaign aides, private discussions with senior lawmakers, a weekend of travel, and a network television interview – Biden is facing serious and growing signs that his support is rapidly diminishing on Capitol Hill and among other allies.
Joe Biden trolled as donors urge him to drop out of presidential race
People online derided the 81-year-old incumbent POTUS as billionaire Democratic party donors request him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
One person remarked, "Are these the billionaires that Biden said he was going to tax, or was he only going to tax the ones that don't contribute to his campaign? I thought Democrats we're the party of blue collar union workers, not billionaire elitist."
Another person commented, "Wait, I thought Democrats we all for saving "democracy", and now they are going to ignore and "overrule" all the citizens that voted for Joe in their primaries? Democrats and elites will pick who you can vote for and the do it in the name of "saving democracy", lol. Trust them, they know what is for your own good better than you do. Poor ole Joe, who has won the Democrat primary in every state but is now about to be thrown under the bus in from the people who call Trump a threat to "democracy". You literally couldn't make this stuff up, ever, or no one would have believed it(20 years ago)."
Another person wrote, "All of these ppl knew and didn't care until everything was exposed and a new candidate doesn't negate the lie."
One person claimed, "The Democratic party has carried out the biggest lie in political history. They ALL knew Biden was having mental issues, he has been exhibiting symptoms of dementia for over 5 years. Dementia is progressive and everyone knows this but they ignored it and put the party before the country. Unforgivable. Vote every single one of them out of office."
Another person said, "THere is no replacement otherwise he would have done it already."
Finally, this person quipped, "I'm sure he wants nothing in return for millions of dollars given."
