WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden’s recent debate performance has caused significant unrest among Democrats and White House aides.

Many people within his team are reportedly concerned about his mental fitness and the perceived lack of transparency from senior aides.

Democratic officials express anxiety over Joe Biden's mental fitness

The tension has reached a boiling pointy with some officials expressing that the administration's "business as usual" approach is not only inappropriate but also delusional given the circumstances.

The unease has led to increased anxiety and uncertainty among party members. "It's the first topic of every conversation," a White House official told Axios.

"Senior leadership has given us nothing. To act like it's business as usual is delusional," the official added.

The sense of panic is palpable among Biden's aides. "Everyone is freaking the f**k out," another official told the outlet.

"The uncertainty after Thursday is palpable and anxiety is only increasing," the White House official added.

House Democrats question Joe Biden's leadership after debate

"People are looking for leadership and direction that they were told to trust, and hoped was there, but aren't yet feeling in what is now clearly a defining moment for this presidency," another official said.

"I don't know who's making decisions," one House Democrat said, adding "Why the hell isn't Biden on the phone with congressional leadership?"

The same Democrat expressed concern that Biden's performance could jeopardize the party's majority, stating, "Everybody now thinks he could cost us the majority," the Democrat stated.

Others echoed the sentiment saying Biden was not providing a reason to have faith in his candidacy. "It's dark," a Biden campaign representative said.

"It feels like there is zero leadership or information. People are being told to keep their heads down and keep working, but they're not seeing the president or being given any reason why they should have faith in him," the representative added.

White House moves to address internal concerns

In response to the outcry, Biden and his team have been taking steps to address the growing concerns.

According to The Hill, Biden spoke to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday night, July 2.

Additionally, he was scheduled to speak to Democratic governors on Wednesday evening, July 3. The White House will also hold an all-staff call, led by Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, in an effort to calm anxious staffers.

Those close to Biden acknowledge the gravity of the situation. "The President and his team understand what they’re up against," one key ally told The Hill.

"They know there’s no time to waste," the ally added. However, the ally admitted that "things aren’t looking good" for the president as the week progresses.

The White House has also denied a report in New York Times which suggested Biden told a key ally he may be unable to salvage his candidacy because he can't sway the public in the coming days.

Biden's campaign also sent out an all-staff memo to calm some nerves after his dismal debate performance.

Internet mocks Joe Biden after his presidential debate

The Internet has been abuzz with Biden's candidacy since the debate. One user likened the situation to the final days of Nixon's presidency as reports suggest administration and Biden were in denial after debate.

"Reminds me of the last days of Nixon. Assuring aides and fellow pols that he was staying. Then the come to Jesus moment with loyal confidants. And, poof, he was gone like an old fart in wind. Disgraced," expressed one user.

Another user pointed out the irony of Biden's debate strategy, writing, "The funniest part of this meltdown is the debate was Biden's idea in the first place. He thought he could play tough only to sink his whole campaign."

"Biden is finished. He just needs to face it," another commenter stated bluntly. Other comments accused Biden's team of covering up his decline with one user saying, "They should because they’ve all been lying to the American people. Including @FLOTUS @KamalaHarris covering up his mental and cognitive decline!"

One simply said if Biden's menatal fitness was a cause of concern "Then [he] leave," suggesting giving up the race for reelection.
