WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative pundit Candace Owens rebuked FBI Director Kash Patel after he rushed to protect his girlfriend from criticism.

Patel found himself in hot water after Bloomberg Law reported that he used an FBI jet to attend a wrestling event where his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, performed the national anthem. It was also reported that Patel allegedly fired a 27-year veteran agent after news about the jet made headlines.

Patel later took to X to defend himself and his relationship.

The FBI director posted a lengthy message touting his agency’s achievements before addressing the controversy.

"I am proud of the work of this FBI," he wrote. "We’re taking violent criminals off the streets in record numbers, crushing the fentanyl crisis, dismantling cartels, saving children, hunting down t**orists, and so much more."

"Let me be clear: we will not be distracted by baseless rumors or the noise from uninformed internet anarchists and the fake news," he continued. Patel added that people could attack him all they wanted, but "going after the people doing great work, my personal life, or those around me is a total disgrace." He called Wilkins “a true patriot,” “a rock-solid conservative,” and “a country music sensation.”

Patel concluded, “And to our supposed allies staying silent. your silence is louder than the clickbait haters.”

However, not everyone was convinced by his chivalrous defense. A community note attached to the post quickly pointed out that “people are largely not attacking Kash Patel's significant other, but rather reacting to his firing of people who point out his usage of government funds to travel to her shows."

Candace Owens criticizes Kash Patel’s defense

Owens, an outspoken conservative commentator, quote-tweeted Patel’s defense.

“I don't care about Alexis one way or another, but I want to point out that the head of the FBI is tweeting out in defense of his girlfriend. Not a wife, but a girlfriend,” Owens commented. “We are just not a serious nation whatsoever," she notably added.

This isn’t Owens’ first clash with Patel. Their friction dates back to the fallout from Charlie Kirk’s murder on September 10 at Utah Valley University.

Owens called foul after an article suggested Patel was unhappy that Joe Kent, head of the counterterrorism center, was taking charge of the Kirk investigation.

“This article is literally about how Kash Patel is upset that Joe Kent and Tulsi Gabbard are trying to do their jobs and solve the Charlie Kirk murder case,” she fumed on X. “It’s like Kash Patel wants to be the sole point person on this, why? I do not trust him at all.”

Country star Alexis Wilkins stands by Kash Patel

Having said that, it appears Alexis Wilkins is standing firm by her man.

The pair have been together for more than two and a half years. They first met at an event in Nashville and have been public since at least 2023. When Patel was sworn in as FBI director in February, Wilkins was right there beside him.

Wilkins, who is 18 years younger than Patel, is a country music singer-songwriter. According to her LinkedIn profile, she has been working as a recording artist, performer, and writer since August 2007. She released her debut EP, Grit, in April 2023.

Wilkins is also active in politics. Her Instagram bio describes her as a political commentator, and her LinkedIn shows she has served as a consultant for The American Border Story since May and as a board member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) since June.

According to her PragerU bio, she is also an ambassador for Turning Point USA and a contributor to The Unity Project.
