Carlos Fernandez: Texas boy, 12, fatally shot in targeted attack while sleeping near his two sisters
HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS: The shooting incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 4, resulting in the death of a 12-year-old boy. Carlos Fernandez was inside his apartment in east Harris County, Texas, at approximately 3 am when authorities reported hearing gunfire.
The child and his family were at the Cloverleaf complex, which is situated in the 13920 block of Alderson Street.
Carlos Fernandez's sisters were sleeping inside the apartment
The victim's two sisters, aged six and seven, were present in the home when the shooting occurred. His mother and two other men were also in the apartment, but no additional injuries were reported. According to the police, the murder was premeditated, Mirror reported.
When authorities arrived at the scene of the early morning gunfire, they found that the perpetrator, who remains at large, had approached a window and fired directly into the bedroom of a small corner apartment, as stated by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales.
Click2Houston reported that 12-year-old Carlos has been identified and pictured as the sole victim of the shooting, hours after the tragic incident. Authorities said that he was hit by gunfire and was declared dead at the scene.
The family and the authorities had no time to save him. Sheriff Gonzalez remarked, “Any time it involves a child, it just hurts a little bit more. Just heartbreaking, thinking that this child would probably be getting ready for school very soon. And unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.”
Has the police arrested any suspect?
No suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident. Following the shooting, deputies stated that the perpetrator fled the scene in a pickup truck, and they are presently engaged in an active search for the individual.
While the relationship between the shooter and Carlos is currently unknown, investigators suspect that this was a targeted incident.
A GoFundMe page has been created in Carlos' honor to help his family cover any burial costs. Carlos' aunt Marisol Gonzales created the page and talked about the terrible loss of her sister and Carlos' mother Ashley.
"As many of you know our dear sister, Ashley, lost her baby boy. This is very devastating to her and the rest of the family. Our sweet Carlos was the best son, big brother, grandson, nephew and cousin," she stated.
