Cassandra Collins stabs boyfriend 'multiple times'
Officers from the Memphis Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to an apartment complex in Shelby's 300 block of Madison Avenue at approximately 3.11 am on January 6, 2024, in response to a "domestic call involving a boyfriend and a girlfriend," Law&Crime reports.
First responders arrived at the apartment on the fourth floor and spoke with Collins' boyfriend, who looked to be suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The victim was taken by emergency medical personnel to the adjacent Regional One Hospital, where he was admitted and was reported to be in critical condition.
The boyfriend told detectives that he was invited to his girlfriend's apartment that night, whom he identified as Collins.
According to the affidavit, he claimed that as they were "about to have sex" and had been "drinking beers," Collins abruptly entered the kitchen and took hold of a butcher knife.
Then, according to what the police wrote, Collins "walked over to (her boyfriend) and began stabbing him in the face four times." It is also said that she stabbed him in the arm at least once.
Cassandra Collins admits to inviting boyfriend to apartment
Collins was taken into custody and taken to the department's Felony Response Unit after officers at the scene said they were able to retrieve the butcher knife from inside the house following a consenting search, Action News5 reported.
Collins consented to speak with detectives after being informed of her Miranda rights, according to the police, and she then gave a plausible explanation for the stabbing.
According to reports, Collins admitted to police that she had invited her boyfriend to her apartment that night and that they had been hanging out and sipping beer.
Her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend had "called several times on his phone," she said, adding that she had noticed this while they were drinking. Whether she admitted to stabbing her boyfriend after realizing the missed calls is not stated.
Collins was booked at Shelby County East Jail after being taken by authorities to the jail following the interview.
According to records, Collins was freed on her own recognizance, which means she was not required to post bond. She is due for a bond review hearing.
