CBS nixing James Talarico’s Stephen Colbert interview boosted his primary chances: Harry Enten
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: CNN data analyst Harry Enten argued that CBS’s decision not to air a planned interview between Texas Democrat James Talarico and Stephen Colbert may have inadvertently strengthened Talarico’s position in his contested Senate primary.
Enten described the situation as a classic “Barbara Streisand effect” on Thursday, February 19, as a reference to how efforts to suppress information can end up amplifying it.
There appears to be a Streisand effect going on with the Talarico interview & Colbert.

James Talarico's fundraising edge widens
According to Enten, Google search data showed a massive spike in interest following news of the pulled interview.
Enten also pointed to fundraising data as evidence that heightened attention could translate into tangible advantages.
Talarico has reportedly raised $13 million, compared with $7 million for Rep Jasmine Crockett, his opponent in the closely watched Democratic primary.
He also holds more cash on hand heading into the final stretch of the primary.
“There are a lot of Democrats nationwide who want Talarico to win,” Enten said, suggesting that the viral attention around the Colbert controversy could further boost grassroots and online donations.
The original interview, which ultimately did not air on 'The Late Show' with Stephen Colbert, has since drawn millions of views online.
The segment surpassed 7 million YouTube views, outperforming other recent late-night clips and extending Talarico’s reach beyond traditional campaign audiences.

Interest in James Talarico surges after cancelled Stephen Colbert interview
Searches for Talarico in the United States jumped roughly 4,900% compared to earlier in the week.
In Texas, where the Democratic primary is unfolding searches surged approximately 1,150%, marking the highest level of interest recorded for him both statewide and nationally.
“He has never had more Google searches in Texas or the United States than he did yesterday,” Enten noted, adding that such spikes in name recognition can be particularly valuable in the closing weeks of a primary campaign.

Beyond fundraising and search data, Enten highlighted changes in prediction markets.
On the Kalshi platform, Talarico’s chances of winning the Democratic nomination rose from about 61% earlier in the week to roughly 75% following the controversy.
Enten suggested that such markets can sometimes serve as a “leading indicator” when public polling lags behind rapidly changing campaign dynamics.
