NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Inside a playground in Central Park, a man was discovered dead with cuts all around his neck. The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was found by the New York Police Department on Monday, December 11, morning.
Just before 8.30 am, authorities received a 911 call, and they hurried to the Heckscher Playground at the southern end of the park close to Columbus Circle, according to police who spoke with The U.S. Sun.
Man found with multiple neck cuts
The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was found with multiple cuts on his neck. A preliminary account indicated the man was found with a shoelace wrapped around his neck, but police later said that the item was actually a string from his hoodie.
Visitors expressed their shock at witnessing a heavy police presence at a location that is meant to be secure for children.
Colin Morris, who was on a visit from Birmingham, England, brought his sons to the playground for some time before catching their flight home. He told the NewYork Post, “We were aiming to come to the playground, have a little walk around the park on our last day, and we get here and find this crime scene.”
Gemma, his spouse, stated: "I think if this had happened at the start of our trip, we wouldn't have gone anywhere near Central Park at night."
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, according to the NYPD, and the investigation is still ongoing, as told to The U.S. Sun.
Heckscher Park, the oldest and largest playground in Central Park, is a go-to destination for families traveling to New York City.
