Charles Calvert: Indiana man arrested for ‘aggressive’ GF’s murder claims he stabbed in self-defence
ALLEN COUNTY, INDIANA: A 60-year-old man in Allen County of Indiana was arrested over the weekend for allegedly killing his girlfriend by stabbing her to death. He later fabricated a story setting up the scene to make it appear as though he was acting in self-defense, as per Law and Crime .
Charles Michael Calvert, 60, called 911 from his home in Grabill late Saturday, February 3, to say that his girlfriend, named, Marcia Linsky was “no longer with us,” according to court documents.
What did Charles Michael Calvert tell police?
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Allen County Police Department at about 8.24 pm on February 3 responded to a 911 call about a stabbing at a residence in the 10500 block of Lagoon Drive.
The caller identified himself as Calvert and allegedly stated that the victim had “come at him with a knife".
Calvert told the dispatcher, "We were having an argument, we were both holding a knife and she came at me", suggesting he expected to “spend the night in jail".
The documents stated that Linsky was discovered face down in a pool of blood, with defensive wounds on her hands, including an almost severed right thumb, and a massive cut on her head and neck.
The affidavit further stated that once in handcuffs, Calvert told cops "that he was cutting onions and his girlfriend stated that he wasn’t doing it correctly."
“The defendant stated the victim shoved the crock pot towards him and came at him with a knife,” the affidavit said.
Additionally, Calvert told the officials that he “became defensive".
Calvert was arrested on murder charges
“Calvert, in a conversation with Cpl. Ben Fries stated that he had been dating the victim for approximately one year. He said that the victim got very aggressive,” the affidavit further stated.
Cops saw a “broken crockpot, some bloody kitchen knives, and food items scattered”. However, they did not observe a "chopped onion" anywhere in the kitchen, the affidavit noted. This is when the responding officers reported that the scene “appeared to be staged".
As per Allen County Sheriff , officials also believed that Calvert had showered before calling the police and had no sense of urgency during his 911 call. When asked about his age, the 60-year-old said he was “old enough to know better but young".
There were also no signs that Calvert attempted to render aid to Linsky, according to the document.
Calvert was arrested on murder charges and was jailed without bond, as per records.
