Charlie Kirk’s shooter charged with murder as prosecutors seek death penalty
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 during a public debate event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two children, a son and a daughter.
A prominent conservative voice in the country, Kirk was the co-founder of TPUSA and served as its executive director until his death last month.
He was a key ally of President Donald Trump and played a crucial role in attracting young voters to the Republican Party, contributing to Trump’s victory last year. Trump even awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously earlier this month.
His suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested two days later, on September 12.
Robinson faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice, after DNA evidence and incriminating messages tied him to the scene, according to court filings. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
According to prosecutors, Robinson targeted Kirk because of his political views, which he allegedly deemed hateful.
