CLEVELAND, OKLAHOMA: During the pretrial hearing, a young girl from Oklahoma provided testimony against her father, who is accused of stabbing her mother. She served as the primary witness to the alleged incident.
The defendant, Chase Ainsworth, aged 35, stabbed his estranged wife, Samantha Ainsworth, aged 31, to death on July 29, 2023, as per Law&Crime.
Details surrounding the murder were disclosed during the testimony of the child, who was 7 at the time of the incident and is now 8 years old.
What happened during Chase Ainsworth's daughter's testimony?
A judge has decided to proceed to trial for Chase Ainsworth after the testimony of the defendant's daughter. The defendant Chase Ainsworth's daughter joined the testimony through a video from another courtroom.
The girl described how Chase, appearing "scary" and with a "mean face," forcefully entered her mother's home on July 29, 2023, taking her mother, Samantha Ainsworth, to the child's bedroom.
The daughter tried to enter the room but found her mother murdered when the door finally opened. According to the Oklahoma City police, the defendant slit Samantha Ainsworth's throat.
Additionally, the daughter testified that Chase forcibly took her mother's phone from her when she attempted to call 911 and that she witnessed him holding a bloodied knife.
She further stated that Ainsworth escorted her and her brother outside, prompting her to flee to a neighbor's house, where she disclosed, "My dad killed my mom."
Chase Ainsworth previously faced charges of murder and kidnapping
Following the child's testimony, the judge decided to include an additional misdemeanor charge of interfering with an emergency call against Chase Ainsworth, who was already facing charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
The latter accusation stemmed from the alleged abduction of his 5-year-old son from their home, which triggered an Amber Alert.
Approximately an hour after the alert was issued, authorities located Ainsworth and the child barricaded inside a residence on Chisholm Road, according to police reports.
Officers safely retrieved the boy and apprehended Chase without incident.
Captain Michelle Henderson commented, stating, "We were able to see that the child was at the window, so we had a team formed to go and get the kid and no one was injured," adding that it was "the best case scenario ending to a horrible situation."
Reportedly, Chase attempted to have the first-degree murder charge reduced to first-degree manslaughter or a crime of passion, arguing that he had no intention of killing his ex-wife.
Furthermore, his defense sought to have the kidnapping charge dismissed, claiming that his 5-year-old son willingly accompanied him.
However, the judge denied both requests. During the hearing, the defense also raised the possibility of self-defense, inquiring about potential weapons in the home.
Ainsworth had previously faced charges of stalking and was accused of repeatedly violating a protective order issued by Samantha, his ex-wife.
He allegedly sent numerous threatening texts, including one stating, "I’m coming for you."
