Chelsea Handler blasts Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe as ‘bigots’ over Kevin Hart Roast
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chelsea Handler blasted Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe after they made fun of her at Netflix’s ‘The Roast of Kevin Hart’. She called them “racist” and “bigots” during the Wednesday, May 20, episode of the ‘Den Cole’s Funny Knowing You’ podcast.
“I knew enough about Tony and Shane, they’re racists, they’re bigots,” the comedian stated. She further shared that she does not “find those jokes funny.”
Chelsea Handler slams Shane Gillis roast jokes
“It was gross. I don’t find those jokes to be funny, jokes about lynching Black people,” Handler asserted. She was referring to Gillis telling the audience during the special, “Kevin is so short, you’d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.”
Handler further expressed her issue with the two comedians joking about comic Sheryl Underwood’s late husband, who died in 1990.
Chelsea Handler calls roast jokes ‘disgusting’
“I found them making fun of Sheryl Underwood’s dead husband [gross]. If she says she’s fine with that, she’s fine with that. I wasn’t fine with that. I thought that was disgusting, too,” the ‘After Lately’ actress mentioned.
Handler then went on to say that Hart “deserved” an “elevated roast,” before adding, “There was so much disgustingness. I knew it was going to be such a gross vibe that I would be able to elevate it, no problem. … Kevin didn’t deserve that.”
After Handler’s response, Gillis hit back at her by simply saying, “This is a big moment for Chelsea. I am glad she’s capitalizing. Good for her. We’re all rooting for her. Anyway, come see me July 17th at the football stadium in Philly.”
Chelsea Handler mocks Shane Gillis and Tony Hinchcliffe
Meanwhile, during her own set, the 51-year-old actress did not mince her words while taking down Gillis and Hinchcliffe.
She began, “Tony and Shane, this must be so exciting for you guys. Usually on Sunday nights, you just burn a cross on someone’s lawn, and tonight you get to roast a whole Black guy…”
“Tony is what happens when women don’t have safe access to abortion care… I didn’t know veneers came in deli mustard yellow. You must be using Crest White Supremacist Strips,” Handler added. Handler was not the only one to call out Gillis and Hinchcliffe following the roast.
In a since-deleted upload on Instagram, ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Michael Che said, “White guys and black people joke differently.”
“Black guys roast like, ‘look at his shoes!’ white roasts are like, ‘slavery, math, slain teens, crimes, slurs, family secrets,’” the 43-year-old shared, before adding, “White guys dont give a damn about they shoes.”
