'I killed my girlfriend': Spokane man's chilling confession of living with partner's body in RV for weeks
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON, 42-year-old Chris Foiles from Washington, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Megan Stedman, a 34-year-old woman with ties to Bozeman.
Foiles reportedly confessed to the crime stating, "I killed my girlfriend," and admitted to living in an RV with Stedman's body for three weeks.
'Suspicious RV' linked to Megan Stedman's disappearance
The Idaho Falls Police Department was alerted to a "suspicious RV" on the 1000 block of Wardell Avenue, which turned out to be a 1973 Dodge RV linked to Stedman's disappearance. The victim, originally from Spokane and a mother of two, had been reported missing and endangered.
Further, the RV, lacking license plates or a VIN, drew the attention of law enforcement. Upon obtaining a search warrant, Montana detectives traveled to Idaho Falls, where they, along with IFPD detectives, set up surveillance on the RV.
Chris Foiles confesses to disturbing murder details
During this time, Foiles was observed leaving the RV, and upon contact with police, he allegedly confessed to the murder stating, "I am Chris Foiles. I killed my girlfriend. She is in the RV," Spokesman reported.
Subsequent searches of the RV revealed Stedman's lifeless body near the back. The suspect was taken into custody and later identified the victim as Stedman during police interviews.
Foiles claimed that he and Stedman arrived in Idaho Falls around December 22, parking the RV on the south side of the Walmart on Utah Avenue.
He detailed a disturbing account of the murder, stating that he stabbed the victim in the neck and chest due to fear she would contact the police regarding a no-contact order between them.
According to the timeline provided by Foiles, he lived with Stedman's body in the RV for three weeks. During a second search, officers found credit cards belonging to the victim, further confirming her identity.
Appearing stoic in court during a Zoom hearing, the suspect interrupted discussions about his bond, expressing his lack of intention to go to trial.
The judge ordered him to be held without bond and appointed a public defender for his representation. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 26, with potential consequences of a life sentence or the death penalty if convicted.
Moreover, a GoFundMe page in support of Stedman read, "Our sister, Megan Stedman was taken from us tragically. This is a very difficult time."
