NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Chuck Todd, the chief political analyst of NBC News, claimed that the conviction of Hunter Biden in the federal gun trial is a major setback to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump on the Tuesday, June 11, episode of 'MSNBC Reports'.

According to CNN, Hunter Biden was found guilty by a jury on three federal felony gun charges on Tuesday, in a Wilmington, Delaware courthouse. He could face a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000.

Chuck Todd's take on Hunter Biden's verdict

Chuck Todd believes that Hunter Biden's guilty verdict hurt Trump as well as disproved his claims of double standard at the Department of Justice, reported Fox News.

The former president has long accused the Justice Department under President Joe Biden of unfairly targeting him and embroiling him in investigations to hurt his chances in the upcoming election.

He also cried collusion between the DoJ and Manhattan prosecutors when he was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records on May 30.

"I think it really damages the Trump campaign’s ability to just wave away their conviction," Todd told MSNBC host Ana Cabrera after the verdict was out for Hunter Biden.

"Politically, this is a big blow to Trump, and that’s – I think – if you’re looking for just political fallout, he’s trying so hard to create this weaponization – and this has been a Republican talking point for so long," he said.

Todd declared that there’s "never been any evidence to support what they’ve said," and that the verdict obtained was evidence to "refute all of these claims – the Jim Jordans and the James Comers of the world."

Members of House GOP were "trying to manufacture something that really didn’t exist in some form of fealty to Trump or political decision to Trump," he added.

Internet disagrees with Chuck Todd

The internet, however, did not agree with Chuck Todd's analysis. "It proves no such thing. That’s why they did it. They wanted to scream this from the rooftops, but what it did is provide cover for much more serious crimes that will never be tried," a social media user wrote on X while responding to the news.

"It's all a show to try and make Americans believe there is a fair justice system. Now they have their new talking point," added another.

"Why should Biden even act like it bothers him. He can save Hunter anytime he chooses all the way up to the day he leaves office," one person commented.

"Everyone has seen thru their sham efforts," another person added.

"Hunter is so guilty they couldn’t even rig it. They tried though," one individual stated.
