WASHINGTON, DC: Former 'Meet the Press' moderator Chuck Todd has delivered a stark assessment of Joe Biden’s presidency, arguing that its perceived weakness and ineffectiveness paved the way for Donald Trump’s return to power.
Speaking on his 'Chuck ToddCast' podcast this week, Todd said Biden’s legacy will be defined by Trump’s 2024 victory rather than his policy achievements.
Todd contended that Biden’s leadership failed to help the nation “turn the page” after the 2020 election, ultimately driving voters back toward Trump.

Joe Biden’s presidency didn’t turn the page, says Chuck Todd
Discussing how President Donald Trump “bullied the resistance into submission” and how detractors could counter him, Chuck Todd shifted focus to Joe Biden’s role in the political pendulum swing. He said Biden’s win in 2020 stemmed from voters rejecting Trump’s combative image, yet Democrats’ 2024 loss to Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris hinged on Biden’s inability to lead decisively.

“He wasn’t a good enough leader. A better leader helps the country turn the page,” Todd said. “You know, we rarely go backwards as a country, so how bad of a presidency do you have to have to encourage the country to go backwards? And the perception of the Biden presidency was it’s just a weak and ineffective presidency.”

Todd said Trump’s reemergence has forced both allies and opponents to change how they deal with him, noting a shift toward negotiation and appeasement rather than confrontation. This recalibration, he argued, highlights the power Trump has regained since leaving office.

In Mediaite’s comment section, one person said, “I miss the Biden presidency. The economy was booming, taxes were low, and the world respected the USA.”
Another fired back, “You are as crazy as the woke leftists.”
One user added, “How about the fact that you didn't see Biden or hear his name every fuqin day???”
Others mocked the thread, writing, “MAGA can’t stop talking about Joe.”
Someone summed up the mood: “You've angered and triggered all of the MAGA trolls. They're flooding the thread.”
Joe Biden’s accomplishments overshadowed
Although former President Joe Biden signed major legislation with potential long-term impact, Chuck Todd suggested these achievements will be eclipsed by Trump’s return to office.
“It’s possible some of the things he signed into law will have long term success, but the fact of the matter is his legacy is Donald Trump came back,” Todd said. “And that’s on Joe Biden.”

Todd also pointed to the legal challenges and protests during Trump’s first term as proof that institutional and grassroots resistance remained strong. However, he argued that Biden failed to channel this resistance into a unifying national direction, leaving many disillusioned.
According to Todd, this leadership void, rather than a sudden shift in public opinion, explains how the country moved from “Trump 1.0 to Trump 2.0.”
