Clayton McGeeney: Family of dead Chiefs fan asks victims' families to avoid angry, speculative statements
KANSAS, MISSOURI: The mystery surrounding the deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs' fans who were found dead in their friend’s backyard a month ago has sparked various theories and reactions from the public and the families of the victims.
Ricky Johnson, David Harrington, and Clayton McGeeney were discovered dead on January 9 at Jordan Willis’ rental property, where they had watched a Chiefs game two days earlier.
The police have not ruled out any "foul play" and are waiting for the autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the cause of death.
Lawyer urges patience and dignity in the death investigation
Tony Kagay, a lawyer representing Clayton McGeeney’s mother, Nancy Bossert, and fiancee, April Mahoney, told Fox News that some of the families of the deceased men were being “premature” in their “aggressive or hostile” statements towards the law enforcement.
“Nancy would prefer the kinds of angry, speculating statements that are coming from some of the family members…wouldn’t happen, so the investigation could proceed in a dignified manner,” he said.
“Let’s wait to find out what the police say happened,” he added.
Ricky Johnson's brother says he only deals with facts
Ricky Johnson, another victim's brother, Jonathan Price, also expressed his frustration with the lack of answers from the police but said he was not interested in any of the theories circulating on social media and the Kansas City community.
“I look at everything, no matter how ridiculous it seems," he told People. However, he said, “I don’t necessarily share any opinions on my own, because … I only deal with facts, and I don’t have any of those.”
“I can’t just sit there and speculate all the time,” he added.
Jordan Willis: Friend of the victims awaits autopsy and toxicology results
Jordan Willis, the friend who is on the line of fire and the host for the Chiefs game and whose backyard became the scene of the tragedy, has denied any knowledge of how his friends died.
His lawyer, John Picerno, said in a statement that Willis was “anxiously awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology report.”
Picerno also said that Willis did not notice the men dead in his backyard or their cars still in the neighborhood in the days between the football game and the discovery.
Police say the case is an ongoing investigation of Kansas City Chiefs' fans deaths
Jacob Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, on Friday, February 9, said that the case remains an “ongoing death investigation.”
He said that no additional details or reports have been revealed to the media in the mysterious case.
Becchina added that “Both KCPD Detectives and the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office have been in touch with the deceased men’s families and remain in contact with them as the investigation unfolds.”
