KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: A mother discovered on her birthday that her son was one of three men found dead in a friend's backyard following a Kansas City Chiefs game.

The devastating news was relayed by the deceased man's brother.

Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington were discovered lifeless on Tuesday, January 9, two days after they had watched a Kansas City Chiefs game at their friend Jordan Willis' rental property in Kansas City.

Jonathan Price, who is Johnson's half-brother, revealed to People that their mother was informed of Johnson's death on her birthday.

The news was then passed on to her other son, Rusty, who subsequently informed Price, aged 31, the next day.

Who was Ricky Johnson?

Ricky Johnson was a passionate sports enthusiast, and according to Price's account to People, there was invariably some kind of game playing on his brother's television.

However, he was more than just a sports fan. He was a devoted father to his three children, aged 14, 9, and 4, and was an "amazing brother, uncle, cousin," and friend who was always ready to lend a hand to anyone, without any hesitation or questions.

"I never remember a single time where I fought with my brother, except for whenever I wanted to watch Power Rangers as a kid and he wanted to watch ESPN," Price expressed.

"Because he's always been [into] everything sports until he had his daughters and then they were his everything. He was a truly selfless person, and I want him to always be remembered as that."

John Picerno, the attorney representing Willis, stated that his client is unaware of how his friends died and is awaiting the results of the pending autopsy and toxicology report.

According to Picerno, Willis last saw his friends when they left his house, after which he went to bed.

He was unaware that they were being searched for until contacted by the police.

Picerno later clarified that there was a fifth individual at the house that night who left before the other three. This individual, who remains anonymous, reportedly stated that Willis and the three men were awake when he left.

On January 9, McGeeney's fiancee reportedly called the police after discovering a body outside Willis' home in Kansas City while trying to get his attention.

Willis' attorney stated that his client was unaware that they were still in his backyard.

The Kansas City Police Department found two additional bodies in Willis' backyard when they arrived at the scene.

The police have stated that there was no apparent foul play and the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.

However, It is speculated that they may have succumbed to hypothermia, as Kansas City experienced sub-zero temperatures that dropped into the teens, per Independent.

Internet reacts to Chiefs fans' death

A Facebook user suspected, "Something is seriously fishy here. I hope the families get the answers they deserve."

Another said, "I totally agree I think they were drugged."

One person asked, "This story is so shady . We need the truth."

A user speculated, "My guess is they got drunk and died of hypothermia."

Another raised a doubt, "Why didn’t they just leave the backyard? Were the locked in back there or something? Why didn’t they go knock on a neighbors door? Call someone?"

"Praying for this Momma. I can't even imagine!" shared a user.

"So many questions! This is horrible!" expressed another.
