CNN's Harry Enten says Trump '41 points underwater' on cost of living: 'Political nightmare'

Harry Enten said Trump's 'net approval at a record low, 41%, you can’t win when you’re at 41 points below water on the cost of living'

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A new data breakdown on CNN is raising serious red flags for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, with chief data analyst Harry Enten calling the latest cost-of-living numbers the most worrying indicator so far.

During a segment on Thursday, March 19, Enten pointed to a dramatic reversal in how voters view Trump on the economy’s most important issue, warning that the shift could have major political consequences if it continues.

Harry Enten breaks down 'concerning' numbers

Laying out the data, Enten said, “This is the most troublesome sign that I have seen for the President of the United States and the Republican Party so far.”

He contrasted Trump’s current standing with where things stood during the 2024 election saying “You go back when he was re-elected back in October of 2024, he was beating Kamala Harris by three points on the cost of living.”

Now, according to Enten, that advantage has completely collapsed.

“Look at his net approval rating now. Down underwater we go, His net approval at a record low, 41%, you can’t win when you’re at 41 points below water on the cost of living.”

“There’s a better chance that I root for the New York Yankees than Donald Trump and the Republican Party winning when he’s 41 points below water.”

Harry Enten decodes 'political nightmare in making'

If the overall numbers are bad, Enten suggested the situation among independents is even worse.

“You think this 41 points below water is bad? Take a look at independents. It’s even worse, 60 points underwater.”

He highlighted just how dramatic the reversal has been saying “You go back to October of 2024, he was winning on this issue over Kamala Harris by 11 points, that is a 71-point switcheroo in the wrong direction.”

Enten noted “This is just a political nightmare waiting to happen for the Republican Party come the midterm election.”

The warning becomes more serious because the cost of living remains the top concern for voters. Enten emphasized that this was the very issue that helped Trump win 2024.

Enten then issued a direct political warning saying “If you’re not addressing this issue, wave adios amigos, goodbye, see you later to the House & maybe Senate .”

As if the current numbers weren’t concerning enough, Enten pointed to economic forecasts that suggest conditions may deteriorate further.

“95% chance that inflation rises in the month of March, it’s going in the wrong direction.”

With rising gas prices and ongoing global tensions, he suggested the political fallout could intensify that would not prove very beneficial for President Trump.
