WASHINGTON, DC: CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and White House Press Secretary went head-to-head during a press conference on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Soon after, the CNN host presented several clips to discredit Leavitt’s claims on the set of ‘The Source with Kaitlan Collins.’

Kaitlan Collins claps back at Karoline Leavitt

In the latest episode of ‘The Source with Kaitlan Collins,’ the host recalled her argument with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt about the state of the American economy and inflation. Collins played a clip of Donald Trump saying that America had the “greatest economy in history” during his first term, adding that he believed they were “blowing it away.”

Referring to the clip, Collins said that the president was “touting” the state of the economy, as his standing with voters on “what is historically a strong issue” for him began to decline recently.

Sharing a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social post talking about inflation, Collins said that Donald Trump “falsely claimed” there was none.

“That has been true. But it comes, after his White House Press Secretary grew defensive over the administration’s statements about the economy during today’s press briefing,” she added.

The CNN broadcaster played a clip of her and Leavitt’s heated exchange, during which the latter accused the journalist of not questioning Joe Biden and his administration about the economic state of America during his term.

Kaitlan stated that, despite what Leavitt argued, CNN did cover inflation during the Biden administration, as another clip of Kaitlan questioning former Press Secretary Jen Psaki played.

“So the bottom line is, we did cover it, and we did certainly ask about it. Of course, we did. We covered the news here,” Collins said.

During Thursday’s press briefing at the White House, Kaitlan Collins asked Karoline Leavitt about the affordability crisis in America. She asked if the economy was as strong as the president claimed, why was Donald Trump asking people to get their children fewer toys and pencils? She also stated that while inflation was what it was a year ago, the grocery prices had increased.

“We’re covering the economy, but there’s mixed signals in terms of what that looks like,” Collins added.

Leavitt responded by stating that as per the overall CPI, inflation had decreased to an average of 2.5%.

The two argued about the numbers, while Leavitt claimed that during Joe Biden’s administration, inflation had gone up to 9% and that in 10 months, Donald Trump had “clawed us out of this hole.”

Leavitt further criticized Collins for the lack of media coverage during Biden’s term.
