CNN host Abby Phillip ridiculed as she compares Joe Biden to George Washington for exiting 2024 election

WASHINGTON, DC: CNN host Abby Phillip came up with a goosey assertion where she stated that President Joe Biden is similar to George Washington, the country's first president, and founding father, because he chose not to run for reelection. 

Phillip contended that by pulling out of the campaign, the 46th president of the United States made a sacrifice akin to that of the nation's first president during a CNN panel discussion before Biden's speech to the nation on Wednesday night, July 24.

"This moment puts him with a bunch of American greats, the sort of George Washingtons of the world," Abby Phillip declared, per Fox News.

Biden's decision, which he announced on Sunday and reiterated in his speech on Wednesday, has been compared by some, including Phillip, to Washington's decision to forego running for president a third time to deny himself additional authority and avoid being perceived as having "concealed ambition."

Unlike Biden, who for weeks had insisted he was the best candidate to defeat former president Donald Trump in a rematch, historians have noted that Washington resigned from office against the advice of his fellow lawmakers and "those who knew him."

"He’s stepping away from power. If he stays in that lane, I think that will be so much more powerful and impactful to the American people," Phillip expressed, noting that Biden would highlight this kind of founding-father behavior in his inaugural speech.

Earlier in the segment, Abby Phillip gushed about Joe Biden, saying he "has really an extraordinary career" and urged him to use his speech to try "reclaiming his entire legacy," which she reminded viewers is "50 years long."

Many media analysts and Democratic Party officials, including Phillip, have presented Biden's resignation as a heroic act of selflessness and sacrifice, even though the president's decision to forgo a reelection campaign appears to have been prompted by others in his own party.

Rep Ted Lieu (D-Calif) told reporters on Tuesday that Joe Biden is "going to go down in history as one of the best presidents America has ever had." He added, "His selfless act this weekend reminds me of what George Washington did when he voluntarily gave up re-election and put country first."

After Biden announced the suspension of his campaign on Sunday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel wrote on social media, "President Biden will be remembered as one of the most successful and transformational presidents in U.S. history. His sacrifice of putting country before self makes him a modern-day George Washington."

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin made the same comparison as well 

"If you cannot appreciate the dignity, the grace, the selflessness, the patriotism of that speech - akin to Washington's farewell - but instead feel compelled to denigrate him, nitpick or return to petty partisan politics I pity you," Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin wrote on X,

"You're denying yourself the majesty, the inspiration of America and of a great president. Go self-reflect," she added.

Netizens scorned the CNN host for her outlandish remarks concerning Joe Biden and George Washington on live television.

One X user tweeted, "Next they'll say it was like christ sacrificing himself for us.....these people man."

"They just can't wait to rewrite history...pathetic," exclaimed another. "More like George Floyd!" echoed a user.

Someone else wrote, "George Washington left a life of luxury and fought alongside his men in a bloody war for eight years, most of which was in horrific conditions. He was shot and injured. He led a rag tag army to win against the the most powerful empire on Earth. He was so admired they wanted to make him a king. Yeah he sounds just like Biden who ate Ice cream and laid on the beach for 3 1/2 years. Trump is more like Washington than Biden ever was."
