Corrinne O'Connor: Mother removes window stops from apartment building before son, 5, plummets to death
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: An eviction filing was submitted on Friday, January 12 in Jackson County to a mother whose son plummeted to his death after she 'carelessly' removed the window stops from the apartment where she lived, as per Daily Mail.
Police discovered the woman's five-year-old, Grayson O'Connor, deceased near 10th Street and Grand Boulevard on November 27 last year.
What happened to Grayson O'Connor?
5-year-old Grayson reportedly fell from the 17th floor window in his home at the Grand Boulevard Loft Apartments in Kansas City, Missouri. Investigators have labeled his death 'suspicious,' as per Daily Mail.
Due to allegations from a neighbor that she discovered Grayson bruised and covered in cuts at a bus stop months prior, Corrinne O'Connor, Grayson's 27-year-old mother, has been designated as a person of interest.
The mother of the boy was sent with an eviction notice by the high-rise apartment building's landlord, who stated that she had taken down window stops on the day Grayson was discovered dead. Additionally, Corrinne has been charged with endangering her child's welfare.
KCTV 5 reported that police officers responded to their apartment "at least eight times in the past six years."
Records revealed that six of those calls were because of disturbances while the other two were welfare checks.
Around 1 pm, someone walking by in the apartment building's alleyway discovered Grayson dead. When they discovered the youngster, officers quickly saw an open window high up on the 17th floor. After that, the property manager and detectives went upstairs and banged on the door.
A detective stated in an earlier statement that they heard a woman's voice, who appeared to be asking for assistance. According to court records, Corrinne stated, "Out the window," in response to a question about where her son was.
Police said that she was then taken to the hospital and was identified as the only person of interest in the suspicious death investigation.
The accused has refused to vacate apartment
A neighbor of Corrinne, Kelsey Grizib revealed that she earlier found the young boy by himself at a nearby bus stop with bruises on both his head and his feet.
After that, according to her, Grizib looked after Grayson for a few days before a social worker sent him back to his mother. Corrinne 'carelessly' removed window stops from the apartment's windows, according to the eviction declaration.
The authorities concluded after the investigation that the unit was unlivable because of "extremely poor sanitary conditions," according to apartment building workers. Despite several attempts by mental health services and law enforcement to have the mother leave the building, she has refused to vacate.
The eviction case is set to head to court on January 25 and the current status of the suspicious death investigation is unknown at this time.
