WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) said that the Democratic Party has "failed" in his generation and made "terrible mistakes" in a scathing review of his own party.

During a conversation published on Monday, November 24, by The New York Times, Booker expressed his disappointment in his own party to the editorial director, David Leonhardt.

Cory Booker says Democrats should be 'refocusing on people'

Booker said during the conversation, "In the Democratic Party, I want to have a very tough conversation. I want it to be a competition of ideas about what our party is going to look like."

"I’m one of those people who’s saying our party has failed. They’ve made terrible mistakes. I want us to emerge in this moment not focusing on party but refocusing on people," he added.

Moreover, Booker said his grandfather was part of a successful period for the Democratic Party under former President Franklin D Roosevelt. He argued Roosevelt offered a "clear vision that this was going to be the nation where working people would have dignity at work, would be able to afford a home, would be able to afford to raise their children and give them a better life."

Furthermore, Booker also took issue with his Democrats' attitude towards social media. He said his party didn’t embrace platforms like TikTok enough and instead put preference on platforms like MS NOW (formerly MSNBC).

He said, "My fellow Democrats, you guys are running to go do MSNBC — and I love my MSNBC — but that only got 100,000 views. I can show you on my platforms that one video of mine can get more than the top-rated views on MSNBC."

Booker added that his party needs to focus on issues like affordability, blasting modern Democrats for failing to set the next generation up for economic success.

Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act outside the U.S. Capitol on July 29, 2025 in Washington, DC. Sixty years after the late Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) was violently attacked crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, the legislation that bears his name would restore and strengthen parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, including the requirement for states and jurisdictions with a history of voting rights violations to seek federal approval before enacting certain changes to their voting laws. He added that his father did better than his grandfather, and it continued with Booker, and mentioned that it may not continue in the generation following the senator.

Booker said, "My father would look at my brother and me growing up in a suburban home in New Jersey and say, 'Boy, don’t you dare walk around this house like you hit a triple. You were born on third base'. But that’s the dream for every generation. And the Democratic Party has failed in my generation."

Mike Marinella claims Democrats aren’t 'helping working families'

National press secretary for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), Mike Marinella, didn't mince words about the internal chaos allegedly consuming the Democrats.

He told Fox News, "Democrats aren’t focused on helping working families, they’re too busy tearing each other apart."

Marinella characterized the surge of progressive challengers as a "full-blown battle for the soul of the Democrat Party", concluding that the "socialist stampede is winning".

The lurch has been reportedly exemplified by candidates like Randy Villegas in California’s 22nd District. Endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Villegas hired the same ad firm that helped Mamdani cruise to victory in NYC.

Villegas said, "Bernie and I share the same goal," signaling a clear alignment with the party's most liberal wing rather than centrist leadership.
