NEWTON COUNTY, GEORGIA: A woman was found guilty in connection to a 2020 double shooting while holding her infant child who was less than a year old on February 12.

After deliberating for less than an hour, a jury found Dalanna Bailey from Covington guilty of multiple charges including malice murder aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and cruelty to children, according to a statement shared by the Newton County District Attorney’s Office.

What did Dalanna Bailey do?

In 2020 during the time of double shooting, the father of Dalanna's infant, Deshawn Grayson, was injured, and the woman who drove him to her apartment, 27-year-old La’Peachah Nash was killed.

On May 14, 2020, Bailey was taken into custody at the DeKalb County Knights Inn located on Panola Road. Her child was with her, and he was safe.

La'Peachah Nash, of Covington, was killed and Deshawn Grayson was injured when Bailey pulled the trigger seven hours earlier, some 20 miles east, according to investigators.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex located in the 10000 block of Fieldcrest Walk. Nash, who was shot in the head, was rushed in critical condition to Atlanta Medical Center, but was pronounced dead the next day. While Grayson was flown to AMC with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Prosecutors described Bailey's connection to Grayson during the trial. The duo were parents to an infant whose age is described as less than a year. Under Nash's driver's seat, Grayson had gone to the Fieldcrest Apartment complex to offer Bailey some cash for the toddler.

Bailey was carrying her small child when she got into a fight with Grayson at her apartment door, according to the prosecution, and she had a revolver in her waistband.

The jury was informed that, out of concern for his own and his child's safety, Grayson had tried to take the gun away from her during the altercation. Bailey told him she had a round in the chamber and threatened him again.

Dalanna Bailey is scheduled to be sentenced in March

At the time of incident, Grayson tried to get back to Nash's car by running away from Bailey. Holding her baby, Bailey fired three rounds into the driver's side window as the couple tried to flee. Bailey and her child left the neighborhood.

Shortly after closing arguments, a Newton County jury returned its verdict.

Bailey was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and cruelty to children in the third degree.

However, she is scheduled to be sentenced on March 7, Fox Atlanta reports.
