WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Darrell Issa (R-CA) praised President Donald Trump’s prime-time address to the nation on the ongoing Iran war on Wednesday, April 1, and also compared him to former President Richard Nixon. He claimed that the Republican leader “is showing the kind of leadership that we’ve been without for a long time.”

Issa sat down for an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business on Thursday, where the latter showed the politician a part of Trump’s speech and asked, “Your reaction, Congressman?”

Darrell Issa calls Trump 'first president since Richard Nixon who spoke about ending wars'

“Last night, two things happened. You heard from the first president since Richard Nixon who spoke about ending wars and did not want to have protracted wars, but would use large amounts of force to bring them to a close,” Issa replied.

The California politician also noted, “And by the way, we launched a mission to the moon, the first one since Richard Nixon in 1972.” He was referring to NASA’s Artemis II mission, which was launched on Wednesday. Three NASA astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, began their journey to the Moon from Kennedy Space Center.

About the 10-day mission, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said at a NASA event on March 24, "This time, the goal is not flags and footprints. This time, the goal is to stay. America will never again give up the Moon."

Darrell Issa backs Trump on Strait of Hormuz stance

Continuing further, Issa agreed with Trump, who said during his speech that the US doesn't need oil through the Strait of Hormuz since it “has plenty of gas.”

The congressman stated, “Obviously, his discussion about the Europeans stepping up — because they’re the ones that use it — well, in fact, if we were to decide, we could pick almost any price for our oil if we simply said it wasn’t going to be exported, because we’re not short of oil in the US.”

“And the president’s well aware of that. What we are short of is the support for this war from the Europeans and the Asian countries who depend on that oil. We don’t,” Issa added.

Maria Bartiromo blasts Iran while supporting Trump's operation

Bartiromo also seemed content with Issa’s remarks as well as the steps taken by the Trump administration against Iran.

She said, “You’re right. And I thought that was so compelling that he made the point that the US is producing more oil than Saudi and Russia combined.”

The Fox host also noted that though Iran has accused Washington of waging “an unjust war that has been imposed on the Iranian people,” they are the ones who have been “saying ‘death to America, death to Israel’ for 47 years.”

About the Artemis launch, she added, “I want to get your take on the Artemis launch yesterday. It was just remarkable, with the crew of Artemis 2 now on their way after yesterday’s launch, marking America’s first moon mission in over 50 years. In fact, Jared Isaacman, the head of NASA, told me that the plan is for Artemis 3 and then an Artemis 4 in 2028, where we will have our astronauts walking on the moon again before China."
