Darrell Sheets’ 'Storage Wars' co-star recalls 'odd' final encounter before his death
LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZONA: 'Storage Wars' alum Darrell Sheets gave one castmate a moment he still cannot shake before his sudden death. Dusty Riach said his final exchange with Sheets felt “odd,” recalling it in an interview with Us Weekly published Sunday, April 26.
According to Riach, Sheets surprisingly agreed to a lowball offer when selling an item to a friend, a move he said was out of character. “It wasn’t the buying and selling that was odd,” he said. “It was really the interaction. Because Darrell is not the type of person to just roll over on an offer.”
The shocking loss has rattled more than just Riach, with other 'Storage Wars' co-stars also stunned by Sheets’ sudden death.

The 'Storage Wars' regular said Sheets behaved unlike himself during what turned out to be one of their last interactions, describing a deal that left everyone confused in hindsight. “He was a fighter for the last dollar in any deal,” Riach said, noting Sheets had initially set a high asking price for an estate collection.
Riach explained that a friend stepped in with a much lower offer, around $50,000 instead of the $125,000 Sheets wanted, and the response was unexpected. “And Darrell just was like, ‘Yeah, that’s great.’”
According to Riach, that reaction alone raised eyebrows, since Sheets was known to push hard in negotiations and rarely backed down without squeezing out more money. “My friend said that it felt like he was tying up his affairs,” Riach said, adding that Sheets later called to reassure him the payment would go through.
Looking back, Riach said the moment stands out even more, especially given how fiercely Sheets used to negotiate over even small amounts. “For Darrell not to come back at you, it’s just kind of weird,” he added.

According to a statement referenced by Variety, authorities said he had “suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.” Officials added that his family has been informed, and the investigation remains active.
