Nikki Glaser mocks Victoria Beckham at Time100 gala: 'What’s it gonna take to get you to smile?
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Comedian Nikki Glaser aimed at Victoria Beckham with her signature sharp humor during her opening monologue at the Time100 Gala. The event, which celebrates the most influential people of the year, was held on Thursday, April 23.
The lighthearted roast quickly became one of the standout moments of the evening, drawing reactions from both Victoria and her husband, former soccer player David Beckham. This comes amid the couple’s ongoing difficulties, including a years-long estrangement from their eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham.

While hosting the event, the comedian began her opening monologue by saying, “One of the most impressive people on the list is Victoria Beckham, of course. Oh my god. She was a global pop star, now a serious fashion designer. She’s married to David Beckham.”
She further said, "She’s rich, successful, stunning. What’s it going to take to get you to smile? I mean, really, please smile. You’re one of the only British people who should.” The camera then panned to the fashion designer, who put on a tight-lipped smile, rested her elbow on the table, and tried not to break into laughter.
Meanwhile, David, seated next to her, was seen smiling and chuckling. This came after Nikki revealed that she sends flowers to anyone she roasts, with Actor Leonardo DiCaprio being the only one to ever send something back.
During her monologue at the Golden Globes, Glaser said, “What a career Leonardo DiCaprio has had,” before adding, “Countless iconic performances, you’ve worked with every great director, you’ve won three Golden Globes and an Oscar — and the most impressive thing is you were able to accomplish all that before your girlfriend turned 30.”
Acknowledging the unoriginal punchline, Glaser added, “Leo, I’m sorry I made that joke. It is cheap. I tried not to, but, like, we don’t know anything else about you, man. There’s nothing else. Open up! I’m serious! I looked! I searched! The most in-depth interview you’ve ever given was for Teen Beat magazine in 1991. Is your favorite food still ‘Pasta, pasta and more pasta?’”
Victoria Beckham’s professional highs and ongoing family tensions
Glaser’s comments came at a time when Victoria had multiple professional milestones to celebrate, including the launch of her collaboration with GAP and recognition of her fashion brand at the TIME100 Summit. However, the public moment also unfolded against the backdrop of ongoing personal challenges within the Beckham family.
Reports indicate that the couple has attempted to reconcile with Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, offering to meet under various conditions, including with mediators or therapists, in an effort to repair their relationship. Brooklyn, however, has publicly rejected reconciliation efforts.
Earlier in the year, he stated that he did not wish to mend ties and alleged longstanding tensions, claiming issues had existed even before his 2022 marriage. He also accused his parents of shaping public narratives about their family through what he described as performative portrayals.
Victoria also commented on the issue, saying she blocks out the public “noise,” as her ongoing feud continues to make headlines. “I learned a long time ago to really not listen to the noise, not focus on the noise. Someone’s always going to have something to say. I just don’t pay attention to it if that makes any sense,” she explained.
She quipped, “Someone else will deal with it, I don’t want to know. That’s how I handle it, I suppose.”
