PHOENIX, ARIZONA: A shooting incident at a south Phoenix home on Sunday night left a teenage girl dead and a man hospitalized with injuries, with authorities detaining a teenage boy in relation to the incident.
At around 11 pm, police were called to a residence close to 7th Avenue and Broadway Road, where they discovered 15-year-old Deniella Espinosa fatally shot.
Two people were shot in Phoenix home
Espinosa was taken to a hospital, where she died shortly after. Officers were informed by witnesses that another victim, a man in his 20s, was also taken to the hospital by an additional person present and is anticipated to recover.
"When officers arrived, they found a female with a gunshot wound. She was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injuries," read a portion of the police statement, as per Fox 10 report.
Charges against suspected teenager
The police reported that more than one person were inside the house at the time of the shooting and spoke with investigators.
"Officers spoke with multiple people inside the home during the shooting, but they provided limited information."
Authorities assert that a mishandled gun by the teenager inside the house resulted in multiple gunshots, striking Espinosa and the man, Arizona's Family stated.
"They learned there was a teenaged male suspect inside the home with a firearm just prior to the incident. The suspect was seen manipulating the firearm that resulted in multiple shots being fired that struck the two victims," police said.
The teenager was immediately placed under arrest and instructed to report to the Juvenile Court Center. He is accused of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, according to the police. Since the suspect is under the age of eighteen, his identity is being withheld. An inquiry is underway at the moment.
