HIALEAH, FLORIDA: Florida authorities have recently released a new video that shows 13-year-old son Derek Rosa speaking with his mother inside their Hialeah apartment, just hours before he called police to report that he had brutally stabbed her to death.

The doorbell camera footage obtained by NBC 6 on Tuesday, February 7, 2024, shows Derek Rosa speaking with his mother Irina Garcia on October 12, 2023.

'Why do you always tell me 'don't run?'

On Wednesday, February 8, state prosecutors unveiled video recordings depicting the minutes leading up to and following the murder of Derek Rosa's 39-year-old mother Irina Garcia on October 12, 2023, while she slept in front of the child in their Hialeah apartment.

The video shows him open the apartment door as Garcia sits in a chair nearby holding her newborn baby.

"Why do you always tell me 'don't run?" he asks her in Spanish in the brief video. Hours later, Rosa called police to report he'd stabbed his mother to death.

Additional video, which was made public on Tuesday, features Rosa speaking with a 911 dispatcher and providing the apartment number. In another video, he is seen opening the door as authorities approach the flat and distant police lights flash.

"I see officers, do I leave, do I leave my house?" Rosa asks the dispatcher in the video.

"No, do not leave, do not leave," the dispatcher responded.

Derek Rosa stabbed his mother more than 40 times

Derek Rosa, according to the police, stabbed his mother, more than 40 times. Authorities stated that after that, he called an online acquaintance and sent the person three pictures, two of which included his mother and a selfie.

Rosa was seen posing in the selfie, which was previously made public by the prosecutors, with what looks to be blood on his hands. Garcia is seen cradling her newborn daughter in two more images taken from a nearby baby monitor in the apartment, and Rosa is shown watching over her later on the night of the murder. A kitchen knife with a pink handle and blood on it was shown in another picture.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Garcia dead in her bedroom next to a crib with her newborn, who was unharmed.

Rosa, who was iMater Academy's eighth grader in Hialeah at the time of Garcia's death, was taken into custody and is now being charged with murder. He is being detained without bond pending his trial on adult charges.

Rosa's attorney Dayliset Rielo released a statement on Wednesday when asked to comment on the videos. "Today would have been Irina’s 40th birthday, my prayers are continuously with the family and I hope wherever Irina is in heaven she continues to give them strength and protection," the statement read.

Derek Rosa is facing a murder charge in the October 12 killing of his mother. He is being charged as an adult and is currently being held at the Metro West Detention Center.
