CINCINNATI, OHIO: Dezmond Wallace, a 20-year-old man, has been arrested for forcefully slamming his newborn boy into a bed, leading to the fracturing of the 16-day-old baby's skull.

The incident occurred as the infant's head struck the headboard of the baby's bed, resulting in multiple injuries.

After this act, Wallace was apprehended and charged. After the investigation, the child has been admitted to a hospital, where details about the injuries, including when they occurred and the affected parts of the body, have been documented.

Children’s Hospital informs County Sheriff’s office

On December 08, the Clermont County Sheriff’s office responded to a call at 1.15 pm from Clermont County Children’s Protective Services, reporting that a 2-week-old male child had been taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with a concerning series of injuries.

The unidentified child’s mother reportedly brought the baby to the hospital, initially seeking treatment for what appeared to be an eye infection.

However, upon closer examination, the hospital staff discovered that the boy had also sustained a fractured skull, injuries to his mouth, and visible bruising on his arms and legs. The child was promptly admitted to the hospital for further medical care.

This incident unfolded after Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Social Service Staff reached out to Clermont County Children’s Protective Services, who, in turn, promptly contacted the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office to initiate an investigation.

Notably, physicians at Children’s Hospital determined that the injuries sustained by the child were non-accidental and resulted from recent trauma.

Dezmond Wallace confesses to Police

Upon detectives' arrival at Children’s Hospital, they conducted voluntary interviews with the newborn's parents "to determine the cause of the child’s injuries."

The detectives claimed, "After speaking to both parents, it was determined that the child received his injuries at their residence located in the Crown Station Apartments in Batavia Township, [Ohio], Dezmond Wallace, the child’s father, was cooperative and admitted to detectives he was responsible for the injuries to his child, which were sustained on the morning of December 6, 2023".

Further, Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at the residence about 20 miles east of Cincinnati, collecting evidence and processing the scene.

According to Cincinnati's ABC affiliate WCPO report, Wallace appeared in Clermont County Municipal Court on Monday morning for his arraignment.

Prosecutors informed the court during the proceeding that in his interview with detectives, Wallace allegedly admitted that on the morning of December 6, he threw his newborn son against the headboard of his bed, resulting in the child's injuries.

Dezmond Wallace was taken into custody on Friday, December 08, and charged with one count of felonious assault and one count of endangering children, as per records reviewed by Law&Crime.

The judge ordered Wallace to remain in detention on a $1 million bond and prohibited him from having any contact with the victim. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 18.
