Disney alum Christy Carlson Romano reveals shooting accident left her at risk of going blind
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Disney alum Christy Carlson Romano is still dealing with the effects of a frightening shooting accident that nearly cost her eyesight.
More than a year after being accidentally hit by a shotgun during a clay pigeon shooting outing, the former Disney star has revealed that a fragment remains dangerously close to her eye.
Although she survived the incident, the possibility of losing her vision remains a concern.
Romano recently opened up about her ongoing recovery, the risks she faces and how the experience has changed her outlook on life.

Romano, best known for starring in Disney Channel's 'Even Stevens' and voicing the lead character in 'Kim Possible', was injured in February 2025 while celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney's 42nd birthday.
The couple had gone clay pigeon shooting with friends when Romano was struck by pellets from a shotgun.
In an interview with Fox News Digital published on October 24, the actress explained that some of the pellets had hit her face and forehead.
“I was peppered with birdshot at about 250 feet away, and I was struck in a fat pocket under my eye and also in my forehead,” Romano said.
The accident left a fragment lodged behind her eye, close to a critical area. Doctors have not removed it because surgery could put her at further risk.

“I still have birdshot behind my eye about a millimetre away from anything critical,” she explained. “And if it were to move, I would go blind. So, we’re hoping that doesn’t happen.”
Romano also recalled how fortunate she was that the pellets did not cause more serious damage. “My oculoplastic surgeon had said that, usually, he’s taking people’s eyes out, kids, because they’ve been shot with a Nerf gun,” she said.
“It just so happened to hit the right fat pocket right under the eye. And I really almost survived through a miracle because I think there was any amount of outcomes when it came to having birdshot striking my skull and my face.”
Christy Carlson Romano reflects on life after shooting accident
The actress has previously spoken about how terrifying the experience was, admitting that she thought she might not survive. Being a mother to two daughters, Isabella and Sophia, made the incident even more difficult to process.
“I, at one point, thought that I was going to die,” Romano said. “And when you have children, you can't help but start to see the world completely differently after an accident like that."
