In the video, Christy Carlson Romano, 40, pointed to the area beneath her right eye where she was hit, explaining that a bullet fragment remained lodged behind her eye and another in her forehead.
Though doctors were able to clean out some debris, the remaining fragment is currently too risky to remove. "So I got shot in the eye. It was not fun," Romano said in her video. "I am safe."
She expressed deep gratitude for the first responders who helped her, referring to them as “superhero-like people,” and praised the medical team at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas, for their care.
Romano admitted that when she recorded the video, her injuries appeared "really bad," but "everything is kind of clearing out."
Romano provided additional details in her post caption, explaining that the incident occurred when another party at the range fired unsafely in the wrong direction, striking her in five places.
"Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face," said Romano.
Her husband, Brendan Rooney, immediately assessed her injuries and rushed her to the hospital.
"I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye," Romano went on. "Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)."

On the harrowing experience, Romano emphasized her gratitude for life and her loved ones saying, "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
Rooney later commented on his wife’s post, calling her “the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman” he has ever met. “I am so thankful you are alive. I love you more than life itself,” he wrote.
