GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN: Newly released dispatch audio has revealed the alarming scene first responders encountered at the Michigan home where eight members of the Karolkiewicz family were later found dead in what authorities have ruled a murder-suicide.

The new audio comes as investigators continue to piece together the tragedy and confirm that multiple fires had also been intentionally set inside the house.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office announced Monday, July 27, that autopsies found Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, fatally shot his wife Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39, and their six children, ranging in age from 5 to 15, before taking his own life. Firefighters had initially been called to the Grand Haven Township home on Friday after reports of smoke coming from the property.

Dispatch audio captures first responders' chilling observations

Newly released 911 dispatch audio offers a glimpse into what emergency crews saw before entering the home.

"White smoke coming out of the window, house is full of smoke seen from the outside and smells electrical," a dispatcher can be heard saying in audio obtained by Fox News.

Investigators later determined the smoke came from several fires that appear to have been deliberately set throughout the house after the shootings.

Capt Jake Sparks said all eight victims died from gunshot wounds and were found in "numerous different bedrooms throughout the house."

Authorities also confirmed the family's pets, including several dogs and at least one cat, died from smoke inhalation.

Authorities continue piecing together family's final days

Officials said Amanda had recently returned from a trip to China with the couple's two adopted 11-year-old daughters just days before the killings.

Kristopher had worked as vice president of sales and marketing at the American Heart Association before his employment ended earlier this month, according to the organization.

As the investigation continued, older Reddit posts believed to have been written by Amanda resurfaced. According to the Holland Sentinel, one 2024 post described alleged marital struggles and infidelity.

"He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again — the same age I was when I was the intern," she allegedly wrote.

She also reportedly shared why she stayed in the marriage, writing, "I kept telling myself, 'I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now.'"

Family urges caution as loved ones remember Amanda

Family spokesperson Emily Jones said there is no confirmation that Amanda authored the Reddit posts.

"I do want to make it clear that we have no way to confirm that that was Mandy that made the posts," Jones said, adding that whoever wrote them appeared to be seeking support anonymously.

Amanda, who worked as a substitute teacher after careers in banking and insurance, was remembered by her mother and stepfather as a devoted parent and educator.

"Our daughter Mandy was a kind and devoted soul who loved her family and her students," Becky and Steve Lawwill said in a statement.

"We treasured every moment we had with her and her six children, and words cannot adequately express our devastation. We pray for God's peace and comfort as we grieve their deaths and honor their lives."
