WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's administration fired former second gentleman Doug Emhoff and 11 others on Tuesday, April 29, from the board that oversees the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Emhoff and others were appointed during former President Joe Biden's administration. The firing takes place as the POTUS aims to install more "steadfast" Israel supporters at the institution, according to the New York Post.

Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff said in a statement posted on X, "Today, I was informed of my removal from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized."

"To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of six million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve," he added.

Notably, Emhoff has been a fierce advocate against antisemitism, as he has convened roundtables with Jewish leaders across the country and also attended events focused on Holocaust remembrance and religious tolerance, per Daily Beast.

Moreover, Emhoff was appointed to the board in January and was slated to serve a five-year term.

Emhoff added in his statement, "No divisive political decision will ever shake my commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education or to combatting hate and antisemitism."

"I will continue to speak out, to educate, and to fight hate in all its forms — because silence is never an option," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, the 11 other board members fired by Trump had Biden’s first chief of staff, Ron Klain, former Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Biden’s top domestic policy adviser Susan Rice, and Jill Biden’s senior adviser, Anthony Bernal.

According to the New York Times, an email from the White House Presidential Personnel Office, informing the board members of their removal read, "On behalf of President Donald J Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council is terminated, effective immediately. Thank you for your service."
